robert you've seen this the last several years. what an emotional reunion. >> reporter: it was. bryan stow wanted to come back because he said the facility the equipment, and most of all, the people there helped him in his recovery. it was a surprise just how much better he looks and sounds and made his reunion emotional and inspirational. bryan stow took his first steps in his rehabilitation program at santa clara valley medical center. and today his steps useing crutches and not a walker lifted everyone's spirits. >> i was at my wit's end, and they kept me through it. >> how are you? >> great. >> oh my god, you look amazing! to see him walk is absolutely incredible. it gives me goose bumps. it's so exciting. >> we want you to wear something from us. >> nice. >> he's a lot more irreverent than i thought he was going to be. >> reporter: therapist scott shield's idea to use a baseball to motivate the giants' fan and today they showed us how far he's come since the day he couldn't even throw the ball. >> makes me feel better about who i am how far i've come. >> reporter: and bryan's par

robert honda was there for a private visit and joins us now. quite a journey for stow since he was attacked four years ago. >> reporter: it was an emotional visit. bryan stow has made recent public appearances, throwing out for the first pitch for the san jose giants speaking to schools. today's trip to valley medical center was a private trip to thank the people who played such an important part in his recovery. and they were thrilled to see his progress. >> hi bryan! >> hi how are you? >> you look great. >> thank you. >> bryan stow with mother ann and father dave returned to santa clara valley medical center today where he first began his rehab program and spent almost five months. today it was a series of individual often tearful reunions. >> how are you? >> oh my gosh! look how great you look! >> of come here. >> you come here. >> i'm coming. >> how are you? oh my gosh i cannot believe you are walking like this. >> i'm light years beyond where i started. i mean people can't even believe i was walking again. >> let me give you a hug. >> how are you, bryan? >> good how are you? >> good. so excited to see you walking! >> i know this knucklehead. >> y

bryan, we have time. yes, right here. >> thank you. most enjoyable. >> well, thank you. >> eric o'neill is an ex-fbi agent who actually took down robert hanson. and he has a said that hanson is in a supermax in solitary. why is it, do you think that jim nicholson had all these benefits of seeing his family, his parents, you know? if he had been put in solitary -- which is akin to driving someone insane actually -- his son would never have been turned. >> indeed that's true. and i don't know -- i don't have a good explanation for why he ended up with a much less, lower sentence than has hanson, although hanson did quite a lot more, and i think peter knows that case a lot better than i do. hanson gave away a lot more secrets that really harmed u.s. security in a way that nicholson's did not. i will tell you there is some, perhaps some justice for you. jim nicholson is in the same same prison with robert hanson today, and it would be very interesting for you to read the book and notice that there is a very small can connection between -- small connection between both of their cases which i don't want to give away just yet. >> okay. yeah, i think
