>> msnbc contributor robert gibbs, senator advisor to senator obama in his campaign. he joins me now. thanks for being on the show. you went up against the clinton machine, scored unbelievable victory in iowa in 2008. what did you expose in 2008? what does that mean for her in 2016? >> i do think when the clinton campaign launched in 2007 and went to iowa there was an expectation that they were so far ahead in national polls they would win without having to try. iowans expect you to come several times to ask for your vote and answer the questions. after they've done that four or five times, then they'll think about supporting you. it takes a great deal of effort. the way she wants to be perceived is asking for their support and earning that trust over the course of a long period of time. that will be different than presumably that was tried last time. >> if you were advising her, what's important for her in iowa? a lot has been said about the campaign in general. going back to her senate campaign in new york in 2000. is it more important to play the politics which oba
