ktvu's robert handa is live with how much more they are hoping for. robert? >> reporter: tough for all charities. the bulls will play the thunder here tonight, but first before the game the teams are hosting a toys for tots drive, one of many charity efforts going on to help those who need help during the holidays. >> reporter: there are so many people lining up for a holiday meal package, it will take several days for everyone to get their turkey. 3200 families will make their way through, a 10% jump from last year. many are working but can't make their ends meet. >> need help for the kids and the family. >> reporter: has it been a tough time? >> yeah. always, you know for, us because we have three kids and it is a lot of spending. >> makes it tough as far as being able to come up with the funds and pay for the bills that i have and afford something like this. >> reporter: they don't have time to congratulate itself on its food give away, they are gearing up for a huge toy give away and getting the donations for that is more difficult. >> tougher for the old

robert handa has the story. >> reporter: investigators scrambled to investigate the scene before it got dark. a look at the vane shows where a driver in a uc work vehicle went off the road and tumbled down landing upside down on north hamilton rode. people on the scene describe what they saw. >> it looked like it was a ford ranger that fell 100 feet or so from a cliff. it looks like it came from a residence of a -- it was somebody who lives up there that works for the observatory and the uc school system. >> reporter: some visitors were stunned by the circumstances. >> i had near misses on the way up and the way back with people crossing over to avoid bicyclists and other things. so i don't know why? it's hard to believe that someone would actually have that kind of an accident if they're used to driving up here. but it happens. >> reporter: other visitors said they considered coming up tomorrow because of the possibility of snow. but not after this accident. >> especially icy or snowy. it's hard enough just driving when it's dry but when it's snow, the switch backs and the winding road

. >>> and in 10 minutes, robert handa is at the scene of a fatal crash near the lake observatory near mount hamilton in the south bay, what he's been able to learn about the victim. >>> police are investigate a string of home and car burglaries in one section of morgan hill. there's been more than two dozen in just the past month in the green leaf area right near highway 101 and east dunne avenue. >> reporter: many of the people who in these homes are in the holiday spirit but there's been a grinch stealing. the thieves took electronics and valuables. several days later her neighbor's truck was hit. police say there's been 33 reports of burglaries in the area. 15 cars have been broken into and some incident it is windows have been smashed. officers say eight homes have been hit and thieves seem to be casing them beforehand. >> some are knocking on the front door to see if anybody is home then they'll go around looking for doors and windows that are left unlocked. >> reporter: police say they think different groups of thieves are targeting neighborhoods. officers are warning people to

. >> our robert handa is on the scene now. robert is joining us live on the telephone. what can you tell us? >> reporter: as frank said as we reported earlier, the san jose police are basically assisting the san jose city college campus police. they are conducting a campus widowed. police say officers are going from building to building looking for this reported shooter. the initial call came from one person who did not identify themselves. important thing that policement to say is they have not had any reports of shots fired. they have not had any reports of any victims reported. we've been talking to faculty members. they say that basically they are only going by the initial information they were given by campus police that there is a search going on for a possible gunman. they say the scene is hectic but everyone is staying pretty calm. at this point it's been going on for a little while. they say they haven't had anything really new to report except for just waiting to see what happens. one thing that one of the faculty members pointed out to me was that just a coup

robert handa, ktvu news. >>> we have another breaking story happening right in the south bay right nowat's where a bomb threat has prompted the partial evacuation of the great mall in milpitas. maureen naylor standing by live with what police have to tell you. >> reporter: we want to give you an idea of what happened right now. i'm standing in front of the kohl's where this happened. we saw some bomb sniffing dogs two of them actually go into the store. police tell us a customer saw a threat written on the bathroom wall inside the door. the writing said there was a bomb in the building. just after 2:00 this afternoon kohl's was evacuated along with 20 other stores. police were putting this caution tape to rope off the area. this isn't the only portion taped off. inside they closed a good portion of the store off. although technically the mall is still open. we also saw that kohl's employees are waiting outside just to make sure they'll be able to go back inside to work. this as police are doing a methodically search inside. >> we have not found anything suspicious as of yet. but we do

. >>> robert handa is live in the foothills. >> the weather right now isn't really doing much expect contributing to this beautiful view of the santa clara valley. but the concern isn't how much rain or snow will come but how much it could aggravate conditions left over from the previous storms. yubas reservoirs near morgan hill one of three south bay reservoirs that won't need any rain to overflow it's already happening. the santa clara district is now releasing water from yubas to try to prevent flooding. some people at yubas today can't believe the sudden change. >> it was very low. and in these past two storms we've had it really rose quickly and it's full. it's going over the spill way now. >> reporter: does that surprise you? >> yeah i am surprised. i'm always surprised with how much water comes out of the hills and seeps into the reservoirs. >> reporter: the water department does not expect more rain but is being cautious. >> the spillway is low compared to what the spillway was designed for. we did go ahead and alert residents that the reservoir was going to spill. >> reporte
