ktvu's robert handa is live at the home of the san jose sharks where things are busy there on the ice but in a different way. >> reporter: that's right. there is a happy holiday occasion going on but not without mixed feelings with today's news the nhl games in december have been dropped. what do you do? the players are not here to use their rink, what you see is filled with families taking part in the shark's foundation holiday assist party. they will get all sorts of gifts, meals and information about social service. today's news was disappointing since it also meant the visit by the players will not happen. >> we are grateful the sharks can still do this and it does have an impact without the players here. but having sharky here is a huge thing. most of the kids love sharky. >> we are all disappointed we are not playing hockey now and we are looking forward to there being a season this year. what we are saying is there is still -- seeing is there is still lot of optimism the season will happen. >> reporter: and the holiday party goes on here at the ice center. they will get to skat
