let's bring in our robert honda live on campus.nd, robert, tell us exactly what's in president trump's executive order. yeah, there's a number of things. of course, it is appropriate that i'm here at san jose state university because, as you mentioned, some of this actually really started with the san jose state volleyball team, who allegedly had a transgender player on the team. that person has never publicly acknowledged that. but donald trump singled out that player. and so he went ahead and signed this executive order today in a room full of girls and women athletes. and basically what it does is it bans transgenders from being involved in girls and women's sports. and the criteria will be that it's the gender that was assigned to you at birth. in essence, your birth certificate. the executive order also extends beyond just that because there are a lot of different sporting sport bodies and groups such as the international olympic committee, which doesn't really have to follow this ban. and so what this executive order does, it

in san jose, robert honda, nbc, bay area news. state leaders are teaming up with sonoma state leaders, demanding transparency and a new plan in order to get to the bottom of the budget deficit at sonoma state university. state leaders, including state senator christopher cabaldon, spoke to the community today. sonoma state is facing a $24 million deficit. now to remedy the problem, the university has cut positions, classes and all of the d2 sports programs. even before the forum, students rallied outside to get some clarity and be involved in the decisions. at the forum, students and parents continued to express their frustrations. state leaders vowed to work with the studentsts a the university. this is an opportunity to involve the public and the legislature as partners in a real way, in creating a plan of action for the university. i'm not really super well versed in all like the finances, but the execution of this, everything was terrible. it went out over an email. students weren't consulted at all. faculty weren't consulted.

in fremont, robert honda, nbc, bay area news. some local nurses are on the picket line today, protesting just days ahead of a hayward hospital, possibly closing its maternity ward. our ends in the california nurses association gathered outside saint rose hospital. they are pushing back against the temporary closure of the birthing center there. the hospital suspending its birthing and delivery services starting a week from tomorrow, saying fewer and fewer births mean it can't sustain all services. that suspension impacts 30 employees. nurses are urging the hospital to keep the maternity ward open. we live in the bay area where we have top hospitals around here that provide resources. and you're telling me a safety net hospital in the middle of alameda county can't be helped, that you have to take away maternal and child services? saint rose executives say that the suspension is going to last a little longer than a year. and in that time, hospital leaders tell us they're going to try to bring back birthing and delivery services, a
