i'm robert lyles. >> frank is off today. >> i'm sydnie kohara. a wild and deadly night in oakland. eight people shot in less than three hours. two of those shootings happened within blocks of each other. sharon chen joins us now on what we've just learned about the search for suspects. sharon? >> reporter: police say they're looking for four young men who got away in a white newer model dodge avenger. at least one suspect apparently had an assault rifle as he opened fire here at the sweet jimmy's earlier this morning. officers say when the suspects were denied entry, at least one of them fired random shots in the restaurant and bar around 12:45 this morning. detectives say six people got shot. two men died. one of them, 27 years old. the other, unidentified. the four wounded went to the hospital. two men are critically injured. two women listed in stable condition. the manager of sweet jimmy's told me that 10-15 family and friends were playing video games when the gunfire erupted. apparently, the restaurant had no security. now, just around the corner, a little more than an hour la

. >>> let's check in with robert lyles. manning the radar tonight for us. robert? >> i am. because that means something wintery this way comes. we first take a look here at the first indicator of what is about to happen with our weather. high clouds are already streaming into the bay area. right now this does not have a lot of precipitation with it. but just wait, it is on its way. inland areas for this evening are expected to be 61 degrees. breezy conditions at sfo. we saw 51 miles per hour gusts. that has diminished to 48 miles per hour. temperatures in the mid-50s. and they hold on at the coastline. it will be a rain-out starting tonight, late tonight after midnight. and then well into tomorrow, where we will continue to see those showers spread throughout the bay area. so heads up as you start your morning commute tomorrow. certainly we will see some rain out there. and it is all because of this low pressure system that is sagging out of the pacific northwest and bringing some showers and some snowfall to oregon. we are not going to see that. but we will see the much co

robert lyles, now with more on the case that includes a novel interpretation of the 14th amendment. >reporter: the department of corrections sees him as a he, yet inmate 79267 is lyra lisa stevens, with high dose estrogen. prescribed and injected by prison doctors, paid for by your tax dollars. but corrections says that's where it ends. in documents we've secured, the department writes, sexual reassignment surgery is not a covered benefit. at this time, it's denied. but stevens, convicted in 2002 for the shotgun murder of a san bernardino woman over a $400 clothing debt, sued the state. we uncovered this letter from 2008. stevens wrote the court, saying i believe i am entitled to this relief because it is vital to the due process of my rehabilitation. what rehabilitation? stevens developed a brain tumor while behind bars that had to be surgically removed. a prison doctor believed the tumor was connected to the high dose estrogen and reduced the hormone. but that's the twist. the doctor wrote, the current dose appears to be inadequate to accomplish and maintain femininization quality o
