robert lyles is in richmond tonight with details of what happened. robert. >> reporter: a major entrance to hilltop mall remains shut down for the fifth hour as richmond police continue their investigation into this officer- involved shooting. it all took place in the courtyard marriott hotel right behind me. now, to give you some perspective, bloom drive where it intersections with hilltop drive is closed to southbound traffic because just above the intersection is the scene of the shooting, a parking lot outside the marriott hotel. what led to the richmond officer opening fire? it appears to be an argument at the extended stay hotel two doors down. police say that is where the shooting victim a 22-year-old man entered the lobby with a handgun in his waistband. that extended stay hotel employee says he grabbed the gun in that verbal dispute and that employee dialed 911. police say the still unidentified man bolted from that hotel jumping a fence at the nearby social security administration then dashed into the main entrance of the marriott courtyard

robert lyles is there with that house fire that forced the evacuation of several others. >> right now berkeley fire has raised this incident to 83 alarm. right behind me is the intersection of mill avenue and cuyler avenue and this is still an active fire scene with fire officials on the block just about them. now we are told the homes affected are at 1005 at 1007 miller avenue. we are told to fire started at the property at 1007 and then spread to the home next door. now it's believed that the fire may have started in some kind of brush area between the two homes. now what it's creating the concern for fire crews on the scene is that that fire is quickly moving. in the area of 1007 it's surrounded by at least two additional homes. aircrews are telling us that holds up an evacuated here on miller avenue and are not specifying exactly how many homes have been evacuated and how many occupants are inside of those homes but those evacuations are expected to also cover homes that are on the nearby grizzly peak. now we spoke with one of the eyewitnesses to the fire and he tells us he was ho
