> joining me now are democrat congressman peter welsh of vermont and former secretary of labor robert reich, professor at the university of california at berkeley. representative welch, assuming this bill makes further progress in the united states senate, which is not at all certain at this point, what are the prospects of some kind of action in the house of representatives? >> well, it's pretty uphill, because we're having this debate as though extending unemployment benefits is going to solve the problem. what it will do is mitigate the impact on individuals and on the economy, but, in fact, what we should be doing is incorporating a discussion about what job creating policies will help, things like building our infrastructure, best time we can do that is now. it increases employment and demand. second, subsidize job program that was a partnership between republican and democratic governors in the administration and employers that put people to work. then third, i think we should be raising the minimum wage. you do those thing, you're actually going to increase demand, increase the base

inherited a fortune, shuttling between mansions is really from the minds like elizabeth warren and robert reichdo you think they're hurting the cause of american society? >> i think they're misleading the american economy. what's really driving inequality isn't so much inherited money. it's marriage. compared to say the 1950s, a wealthy man is more likely to be married to a high income woman than back then. if you make $100,000 a year, $200,000, very likely you have a spouse in roughly the same income bracket. that's driven a lot of the difference in income and net worth. >> so you are -- what we found too from your study here, the highest income earners only 13% of them are not working. >> yeah. they tend to be employed and very, very high numbers. that's the main difference between high income households and low income households is that high income households are made up of people in full-time jobs. this isn't to say that people on the other spectrum are lazy. it's to say the job market stinks for people at the low end of the skill spectrum. but what's keeping low income poor is lack of jobs
