the oath of office administered by chief justice john roberts in a small ceremony at the white house. our chief white house correspondent ed henry is there live with more. ed, i won't speak for you. i know what it's like to say the wrong words now and then on live television with a live audience. this time, though, the swearing in seemed to be flawless, is that right? >> reporter: that's right, jenna. it went off without a hitch at least this time. you remember a bit of a flub from the chief justice four years ago. he went without note cards, was trying to memorize the oath, slipped up a little bit. this time he had note cards in hand. we should note the pageantry of the moment. it was held in the blue room which is a small room, about 30 by 40 feet in the white house, much smaller than the east room where some of the more ceremonial rooms are. we wanted it to be small, intimate, mostly family on hand to watch him sworn in for the second time. very interesting. after he took his hand off the robinson family bible, his wife's family bible, he had a very human moment with his daughters.

small study to point the way to catching it early. it begins with a simple test that women already get routinely. our report tonight from our chief science correspondent, robert bazell. >> reporter: the experimental test could revolutionize early detections for two major women's cancers. uterine, which calls 8,000 women a year in this country. and ovian, which kills 15,000. >> this has the potential to fill in a niche where there is no effective screening test. >> reporter: linda da phono has stage 3 ovarian cancer. she had a fullness in her abdomen, a symptom women often ignore. >> i started to feel this strange feeling that i just knew wasn't right. >> reporter: she is undergoing 18 weeks of chemotherapy. doctors have long been searching for a test to find ovarian cancer early, when it is for mar easily treated. >> when ovarian cancer is found at stage 1, the cure rate is 85 to 90%. >> reporter: to develop the new test, the scientists at johns hopkins started with a familiar pap smear that looks for abnormal cells that become cervical cancer. the pap test has saved millions of lives around the world. the hopkins researchers found that cancer i couldn't say

: small is cautiously optimistic that this brain scan will eventually diagnose cte in living people. >> it's a step forward, but it's a baby step. because it's not specific to tau. >> reporter: robertthe boston university school of medicine, is a bit more skeptical. he says small's brain scan doesn't just measure tau, it measures another protein called am ma amel oichlt chlt dichlt which is present in all timer's disease. >> we don't know if its he tau or both. >> reporter: could the players be suffering from cte, always timer's or did other disease? so as you can see, the study is far from conclusive. but if it does pan out, if could give us a better idea of what cte looks like, how it progresses over the years and maybe even how to treat it. dr. small who you just met in the piece there has done a lot of work in the world of alzheimer's, and he wonders if some of the same interventions could also work for cte. reducing stress, improved diet, anti-inflammatorie anti-inflammatories. it will be a while before can he test the hypothesis, but that's what dr. small and lots of others are angling toward. >> boston researchers recently studied the brains of 35 desaysed football players.
