meteorologist robert speta has the details. >> this time it does look like we'll be seeing typhoon-strength winds by the end of this weekend. take a look at the satellite picture. you can see our storm system right now, it looks like it's heading over towards luzan, but good news for you, it's expected to make a right-hand turn, heading through the friday into saturday. unfortunately, it will be bringing heavy rainfall for those of you across eastern portions of taiwan. last week, we had soudelor come through, caused extensive flading and landslides before turning northeast and then just towards the west of okinawa by monday. so if you are across this area, you want to be making typhoon preparations at this time. meanwhile, we are looking at heavy rainfall. so across much of luzan, even though you're not seeing a direct impact, you're seeing showers, some areas as much as 2 to 300 millimeters of precipitation. in ish gaky and na ha, you see the showers push in, and by monday in na ha, you could be seeing typhoon-strength winds. but also put chich jeema and tokyo on this forecast. because we

robert speta joins us with the latest. >> what we are seeing out here is actually an area of low pressureas centered back towards the north, just off the coast of portugal. but it's been surging in this moisture from the south out of the tropics. and when that hits some of the mountains in central morocco, it really dropped a torrential amount of rainfall. let's go to video we have, just showing you what it looks like on the ground here. you can see that river flowing through. and one of the big problems, these rivers started to build up, caused mudslides. three women, two young daughters were missing on monday after torrential rains left one of these towns here flooded. and five missing -- the five missing were sheltering in one of the three houses that ended up being washed away in floods. streets were cut offs, bridges collapsed. and some residents have lost everything. you can see the powerful images, showing you what happened here with this storm system. on the satellite picture, it really does explain the story here with these very bright white cloud tops flaring up. that's what's b

robert speta has details. >> we're looking at record-breaking rainfall and looking at the damaging winds continuing to track overhead but one of the things i do want to mention is that moisture coming along the eastern of the storm is definitely impacting areas farther off towards the east. the peninsula, also over towards 300 hill meters and another big thing is you have that moisture coming up but also you have back here towards the east will have an indirect impact. cooler air from the north, that storm is going to be making for unsettled conditions so over the next basically 72 hours, we'll see the threat of rain showers and thunderstorms around the plain including the tokyo area. even though the storm is farther towards the west, you still may want to have an umbrella ready because of the moisture inflow coming in from the south with this one. now back towards the west, i want to mention much of the korean peninsula and china will stay rather unsettled out there. extending down toward the south. the trough impacting those of you across taiwan and extending toward bangkok high of 34

meteorologist robert speta joins us with the details. >> yes, actually, this showers we are seeing out here on our wednesday is somewhat associated with what's left of goni out towards the west. what you can see here on the satellite imagery is really our storm over the past four days you remember it was down here towards the south as a very strong typhoon, almost near a violent intensity. it brought record breaking winds. moved across western japan. now it is getting more spread out because of interaction with the jet stream. one thing we are seeing is a lot of moisture getting pulled in from the southeast across eastern portions of japan including tokyo. we're looking at rain showers. it's indirectly associated with what is left of goni, no longer a typhoon an extra-tropical low. winds down in ishigaki. highest winds ever recorded on that island. they're very typhoon prone. quite incredible. look at this rain total. 667 millimeters into the kie peninsula. the storm tracks back here to the west. that moisture inflow coming in from the south and really just been piling up the showers e

meteorologist robert speta joins with us the details. >> let's talk about this. because what we have going on is several storm systems across much of the u.s. and canada. starting with the east here, actually in parts of new york down towards new jersey, washington, d.c., you're seeing about a one to two-hour delay at the airport. so if you have travel plans out here, something to watch out for. the reason is you can see on the satellite picture, this front is moving off towards the east. it has been bringing these strong severe storms in some areas even have tornado warnings in effect across parts of new jersey down through the carolinas. the good news is we go ahead through wednesday. this high pressure's going to set in and is going to be pushing this off towards the east. but at least into your tuesday overnight hours still have that threat. now back towards the west, we do have this storm system. part of the north american monsoon. you get this and it triggers up these strong thunderstorms. especially in the afternoon and the evening hours. now in some areas

meteorologist robert speta explains in world weather. >> let's take a look at the satellite picture an i'll start off with this because right now the typhoon, it's drifting off towards the west and if you're watching from northern portions of luzon it's been raining. really the wind is blowing out here. you may be thinking the typhoon is coming by way, right? at this point it is just off the northern coastline and we expect it to make a hard right-hand turn here on friday and eventually steer off here towards the north blowing past basically and west of okinawa and naha out here. definitely at this time, gusting to 252 kilometers per hour and expected to weaken off towards the north and typhoon warning expected. expecting the winds to strengthen and then taiwan and staying towards the east of you it is going to be pumping a lot of that moisture on shore. taiwan, last place you need another typhoon. not expecting a direct landfall and there's enough to cause the threat of flooding and landslides out here. look at the three-day forecast for some of you. really on friday, partly cloudy sk
