. >>> let's now bring in our meteorologist robert speta. people in tokyo that live with pets, looks like a great day to take them outdoors. it is beautiful out there, robert. >> yes, actually as we go ahead through the rest of tuesday or most of the morning into the afternoon hours, tokyo will look at above average temperatures. increasing clouds, though, and that is all the result of the storm system back towards the west. if you do get out this morning, enjoy the weather while it lasts because this storm system is definitely on the way. you can really see this on a satellite picture wrapping up, actually turning into the comma shape, this is a classic mature storm system whenever it goes into the comma strong upper level jet and definitely the impact being felt in areas across the korean peninsula over 100 meters of precipitation and japanese islands, strong thunderstorms flaring up just off the coastline . through the late morning into afternoon hours, really working its way across the earthquake impacted areas there. you'll be looking at

robert speta tells us how it's looking elsewhere. >> actually, yeah, sunny skies dominating most of japan here on our thursday morning. that frontal area that pushed think here on wednesday brought some scattered showers, now drifting to the east. but we have a new low developing just along the western edge. that will lift off towards the north. just in the morning hours, because by the time we do into thursday afternoon, also extending back towards the west. this is just going to be lifting further off there towards the north. definitely brings in widespread rainfall with it, and behind it, at least, temperatures will warm up heading into the weekend. 24 here on your thursday, some cloudy skies warming up to 28 there into seoul. tokyo by the afternoon, as mentioned, those showers will be moving in, but 28 as well. there by the weekend, i know a big day here, especially by your friday morning through the afternoon, it does look like partly cloudy skies, temperatures absolutely decent, 29 there for your high on friday, but the rainy season is still dominating toward taipei, also towards ho

robert speta joins us with the latest. >> yes, fairly gusty out there this morning. we have been seeing this area of low pressure push overhead, and if you are out and about, you may be seeing some people's umbrellas snapping back with some of the rain showers pushing through. i want to show you some wind reports. along the key peninsula, and also in key youri, about 340 millimeters in the past 48 hours. look at exactly where this comes out of as well. this is some some of the hard earthquake-hit areas, so definitely a threat of flooding, even landslides. i want to show you a video closer here coming out of kanagawa. this is where the winds in the morning hours were just kicking up. definite li a rough commute out there. about 80 clop per per hour gusts were reported, including parts of can aga what, and tokyo. actually peaking right around noontime, along with some rain showers pushing through's well. not to mention right along the coastline. as we go ahead through the afternoon, it's not all that bad. lunchtime, you probably want to stay indoors. if you are out and

our meteorologist robert speta joins us with the latest. >> this is all a result of this depression, a tropical low that's been spinning across the area, now slowly tracking off towards the north. you can see it really on the satellite picture, just continuing to swirl through this area. all right we have been seeing some fairly heavy rainfall reports. in just the past three days, some areas out here nearly 300 millimeters, but in the past week from the 9th through the 16th, upwards of 7 to 800 millimeters fell here, and definitely very serious situation for a lot of people. first, i'll show you out of sri lanka here, further down toward the south, you can take a look at this, the severe flooding that was taking place, 114 homes have been destroyed. we are seeing very heavy rainfall still heading into wednesday morning definitely affecting traffic rather badly. the good news, if there is any shining light coming out of this, it is bringing some relief to the heat that's been dominating much of this area. so far this pre-monsoonal season we've seen a significant heat wave. so this doe

it's time for a check of the weather with robert speta. it was pouring rain. the weather has improved. what happened? >> the weather improved quickly even back towards the west as well. with have our storm system racing off toward the northeast. the big thing is it has a strong upper level jet associated with it. it's been fueling it up, making it for rather potent storm. the good news, that's also enhancing it moving rather fast. we did see roughwet r out here on tuesday and also over towards wednesday morning. we had a report of a water spout just off the coastline. high winds into the korean peninsula. over 150 kilometers per hour. it's been windy and heavy rain. let's show you video. this is what we're talking about here into the morning. you mentioned that walking into work it was a rough one. a lot of us had to deal with this this morning. you see people caught off guard. winds picking up across most of tokyo along with the heavy rainfall throughout the morning hours. also we have seen numerous train delays in suspension of one line earlier on this morni

robert speta joins us with the latest. >> actually, in fact, we are going to be looking at temperatures rising through the week. definitely muggy. the humidity is up across most of japan. we have our area of low pressure that has been pushing overhead, bringing that precipitation with it as well throughout the morning hours to the tokyo area. you have been seeing some showers, and actually into iwate there have been record-breaking rains. the past 48 hours, 151 millimeters of precipitation has come down out here. the good news is that this front is not going to be lingering here all that long. through the rest of the morning we're looking at widespread showers, but that should be tapering over, ospecially towards the back toward the east. include should the shime region. and similarly over there towards hiroshima, a big event taking place during the afternoon hours. it does look like sunny skies are expected to be in place. cloudy in the morning, but once that front gets a move on, the sun will start to peek there with temperatures on the rise. it would be a hot one out there, a high of

robert speta will stel us whether this will last through the weekend. >> yes. sunny skies really dominated most of japan today. we have a big area of high pressure, it has moved in. clear conditions out there, temperatures definitely on the rise, feeling summer-like for a lot of you across much of the area. something that is kind of contributing to the warmer temperatures, this area of low pressure back toward theest. out ahead of it we have the southerly winds coming in. that is bringing some precipitation across northeastern china, but this is one other thing i want to know. a tight pressure gradient, and out of mongolia over towards western china, you have the gobbi desert, the winds kicked up and it's bringing yellow sand. i'll show you some video coming out of this area. definitely a significant reduced visibility here in northwestern china on wednesday. traffic actually halted in some areas, as visibility dropped to less than 50 meters. that is just absolutely incredible. the air is just getting filled with the sand out here. definitely poor air quality.

robert speta has the latest. >> actually, as we go ahead through the afternoon into the evening hourswe should look at clearing skies out there, at least into the downtown tokyo area. now, just along the northern regions including the prefollowing the accidepr prefecture, showers. it's really going to be spotty at best for some of you. further towards the north, definitely looking at the showers out there. we have an area of low pressure moving across much of the far eastern russia and brought winds out there 65 kilometers per hour and will trigger up thunderstorms with that, as well. we have a cooler air continuing to spill in, some daytime heating. some storms can produce very high winds, also there is that potential of funnel clouds and maybe a tornado or two across parts. the tail end of the front, though, will be extending just along northern. as far as tokyo is concerned, partly cloudy skies. i do think if you are out there and through the overnight hours you might be able to get a good look at mars across much of the tokyo but western japan definitely going to be able to get a

robert speta joins us with the latest on world weather. >> actually, this morning we're looking at wide spread showers across much of central japan including tokyo back towards there and the heaviest stuff into kochkochi prefecture. just this conveyer belt of moisture moving across much of central japan extending back towards the southern japanese islands where i want to note the official start of the rainy season began here on monday in later than average out here and really going to be expecting the precipitation day in and out for the several next weeks to come as that rainy season basically lingers. now back towards the north, we are going to get a break from the precipitation across mainland and this low is going to be tracking off there towards the east. bringing sunnier skies and more scattered precipitation here throughout the rest of tuesday but by the time wednesday comes around, high pressure works in from the west. sun snony skies so with a high 27. beijing baking there for you. 31 for your high on tuesday. tokyo still hat 20 but by the time wednesday comes around, it will s

robert speta joins us with more. >> yes, in fact, we are still looking at wide spread precipitation ine areas across parts. it is going to get quite heavy on tuesday and really that chance of flooding but also landslides, as well. we do have two separate storm systems here running a i long the stationary front. one back here towards the east bringing light rainfall across parts of northern japan and tokyo area if you are out and about you might have an umbrella but the heavy stuff is back here towards the west. really have more instability there and parts, we have some of these very strong thunder cells flaring up this morning with frequent lightning and damaging winds potentially and maybe a waterspout or possibly coastal tornado is possible with this as it pushes by but i think the biggest threat coming out of this is going to be the rainfall and that's flooding and landslides. 120 to 150 millimeters still possible out there back and towards the key peninsula and stronger cells 40 millimeters an hour and loose soil will be problematic for a lot of people. definitely people still reco

. >>> let's check in with meteorologist robert speta.eople in sri lanka are trying to recover after getting hit with severe weather, heavy rain triggered massive landslides. >> now a main cyclone by the way, cyclone roanu just skirting the coastline. also down towards the south in those areas that were hit by those massive landslides earlier this week. you're continuing to see some of those inflow bands wrapping around from the south bringing additional prepitation and hampering rescue efforts out here where there have been numerous soldiers deployed to try to rescue and recover people who are trapped in there. at least 30 lives have been claimed by this natural disaster, but over 150 people are believed to be buried in these landslides in three separate villages. the more and more time that does go by, the more and more grave the situation is, but you can see a lot of people out here walking through this mud. additional rainfall is definitely not helping out efforts at all. back towards the north, though, the storm is not over yet. in f

our meteorologist robert speta joins us with the latest. >> in fact temperatures have dropped a good five, six degrees in the tokyo area, as we go through your wednesday afternoon. take a look at the satellite picture, this cloud cover dominated down through kyushu. blocking on the the sun. we are lacking in the strong southerly winters today, so it is feeling much cooler. unfortunately this does come with some precipitation, and really heavy stuff back towards the west. we're seeing thunderstorms in kyushu, extending down through the japanese islands here. also some fairly gusty winds. you have that tight pressure grade gradient setting up there, with the winds up to about 79 kilometers, coming in along the western seaboards, including thof of you in sapporo. tokyo will be missing out on this precipitation, at least until friday, but you are continuing to deal with the cloudy skies, so that will keep things on the average side. also back there toward the west into the ise-shima regions, a lo lot of eyes are on this area because of the g7 summit taking place on thursday and friday. a
