roberta? >> when we take a look at these live cbs 5 pictures, you can see that plume right there at the surface relatively calm. the surface winds are on the calm side. but once that plume of black smoke goes into the upper atmosphere, that's when we are able to detect a northwest breeze that at times is up to 13 miles per hour. which means if you are to the southeast of martinez, you are going to smell that smoke. i wanted to confirm those winds and the smell of smoke. so i went online to facebook. i got a response from john hand. he says we live in concord. started to walk the dogs. i could smell the smoke, so we turned around and went home and closed up the house. then i went on twitter, put the message out there, do you smell smoke and where? janice, i am in concord off concord avenue. we middle smoke. it's not too bad yet because the winds are blowing away from us which again is to the southeast. detroit street near meadow homes, you can obviously see the smoke drifting into that area. so
