roberta just said at this time a few months ago, none of this existed. i'm actually in the russian river right now. i'm probably in a foot of water. so you can imagine how deep it is. a triathlon was cancelled last summer because there was nothing here to swim in. so while people are on guard for this next round of flooding, they are better prepared than they were in years past. we have video from the last time the russian river flooded back in 1997, 1998. so waters grew to 45 feet. but it's still not as high as when it was the 1986 winter when water levels reached 49.5 feet. so today through the night the nws expects the river will start flowing at its lowest level at 32 feet. steady rains pounded the north bay all day yesterday causing this mud slide in forestville. it was one of several in the area. mud, rocks and other debris block summer home park road for hours. even though many homes here are now elevated on stilts, people who live in guerneville are bracing themselves and their homes for the flood. supplies will be crit cat when the river crest.
