let's turn to roberta gonzalez right now. conditions improving. that's nice to see. but you've been saying not for long. >> not for long. we will see an increase tomorrow night, but most notably again on saturday. and then we'll have a moderate wind event next tuesday. so we're in this for the long haul as far as this is concerned. this is a live weather picture looking out at pacific palisades at this particular time. keep in mind the elevation is anywhere from sea level all the way up to the highlands at 2300ft. and at 8:00 this morning, we were seeing wind gusts at 83mph at lunchtime, 60, and then decreasing at 3:00 pm to 50 mile per hour. but that's still pretty aggressive and vigorous wind speeds. now the current conditions. i just took a look at one of the reporting stations that is actually up and operating 50 degrees relative humidity. there's a little bit of moisture more in the atmosphere now that the sun has set at 502. the winds are breezy, but it's the wind gusts that's the culprit. the winds are gusting up to 25mph. very similar conditions when we go in

roberta. we want to go now to ktvu tom vacar, who is live near the palisades fire for us, giving us a look at what the situation looks like at this hour. tom. >> i want to illustrate a very important point. yeah, we're seeing the big picture stuff, and that's the big fight here. but there's another fight going on and there's tons of fire trucks around here, even though the flames are not apparent. but i want you to take a look over there. you can see where something has been burning and it's just burning right now. but when gusts of winds pick up, what happens is it throws embers into the air. if it's just a short lasting gust, not a big problem. but if you get a very concentrated wind going, this is going to throw up embers. now we're going to go cross over here. you can see all along this hillside what you see is amber, amber, amber, amber, go on and so forth. this is just one lot out of hundreds, if not thousands of lots that have this problem. and then when we look over to the left, you ca

i'm roberta gonzalez, ktvu, fox two news. >> all right. we want to talk about the weather here. and this is a live look at the oakland estuary. things looking pretty calm out there on the water as we look toward san francisco. let's bring in meteorologist mark tamayo. mark, you are tracking the weather here in the bay area. and of course, the wind situation down there in southern california. >> yeah, here in the bay area, chilly morning out there. and in southern california, they have the gusty winds and they still have a red flag fire warning in place. and for the rest of today, tomorrow and into your thursday. so down from up, as you can see from from ventura county approaching los angeles county, approaching san diego as well. a red flag warning until 8 p.m. thursday. winds have been trending down over the past few hours, so that's a good sign. but they could pick up once again tomorrow and the top gusts could be approaching or topping 50 miles an hour. so it's that dry offshore wind, the santa ana wind that will redevelop into your wednesday forecast. and it's very dry, dry

our roberta gonzalez is live in los angeles here with more on these new fires and the changing weatherons. >> we're here just off the 405 freeway. in fact, you have 4 or 5 going north and south in the sepulveda area here. and this was the scene of a fire that broke out at 11:00 last night. now, i've been using my anemometer to detect the winds, and they have been picking up currently about 15mph. but throughout the day today, gusts up to 30mph are anticipated even stronger in the local mountains. but last night the winds were calm. thank goodness. because of this, this fire broke out just outside of brentwood about 11:00 last night. since the winds were calm, los angeles county firefighters, they were able to jump all over this and get the tankers up, and they threw water down on it. and by one 130 this morning declared this fire out. however, you still see firefighters up there because their job is to watch the hot spots with the increasing winds. we do have several hotspots that continue to flare up. i did get a hold of chief pio david ortiz with the los angeles county fire departmen

so, roberta, what's it like down there now?it started out very cold this morning when we came out here at 4:00 this morning, it was 45 degrees, and now it's jumped up to about 56 degrees. blue skies, a few high, thin clouds. a great day to prepare for the incoming system. now, let me tell you something. firefighters have been coming and they've been going. and so far, about 20,000 of these sandbags are ready to go. why? because first off, you had the eaton fire. and that's where we are. we're in the eaton fire zone here in pasadena. then you have the pacific palisades fire, and then when you toss some rain into the mix, the end result is the potential of debris flow, mudslides or landslides. so they're getting ready here in pasadena and all around l.a. county. we talked to one city official here in pasadena. this is what she had to say. let's give it a listen. >> we are concerned. that's why we're preparing now while we still have a few days in between working vigorously to get k-rails and barriers up into these foothill areas,

ktvu roberta gonzalez joining us now from los angeles with more on these new fires. roberta.ecause the weather conditions are certainly a big part of the story. >> they certainly are. pam, i know you and dave are very familiar with the los angeles area, but let me explain to our viewers here where we are. i'm currently underneath the freeway. this is 405 north. this is 405 south. i'm on sepulveda boulevard, which is closed because right up there, about 100 to 200ft, we had a fire that broke out at 11:00 last night, and conditions were actually great at that time to knock this fire down. the reason is the winds were flat. so the los angeles fire department, the great firefighters, got up there with their tankers. they doused the flames. they've been on the scene, however, all morning long. and they officially called this fire out at 130 this morning. but we've been here all morning long because of the fact that there's still a lot of hotspots around the area. so firefighters have been coming in. i tracked down pio officer david ortiz. i asked him about the conditions and what
