in district 8, the republican incumbent is roberta darling, democratic challenger is sandy pasch.ight now, polls closed at 9:00 p.m. eastern. nothing but 2% in, roberta darling at 62% of her vote, her democratic challenger, sandy pasch at 28% of the vote. sheila harsdorf, sheila moore. harsdorf ahead. in district 14, luther olsen, his democratic challenger is fred clark, right now with 17% of the vote in, the republican incumbent, luther olsen leading 59% to 41%. in district 18, the republican incumbent is senator randy hopper, democratic challenger is jess king of oshkosh, wisconsin, hopper leading 54% to 46%. finally, in district 32, what democrats hope to be their best chance of a pick-up tonight with just 7% of precincts reporting, republican incumbent senator trails his democratic challenger, jennifer shilling 52% to 48%. we'll keep an eye on the results as they come in to us. and roberta darling in with that number you that saw on the screen there, with 44% of the votes. so it's still a very good chance for the democrats to get three. but the surprise here is the showing of randy hopper, the state senator. for more on that let's go to john nichols, washington correspondent of "the nation" magazine. three republican victories declared tonight. john, how do you see the other three races? >> well, let me tell you this. i will tell you right now, i believe that jess king will defeat randy hopper. and i'll tell you why. because oshkosh, wisconsin, which is jess king's heartland, it's where she was the vice mayor and a long-time city council member, has not reported. she won that town by 5,000 votes last time. i think she's going to come up. she's got space to move. now, i've got to be honest with you, though, in that sandy pasch race, sandy is ahead now but there is still some tough suburban turf out for her. so she's got -- there are no guarantees she's going to win that. so what i will tell you is i believe that there's a very good chance -- i think jen

i think one to watch will be in suburban milwaukee, where roberta darling, a close associate to the governor and helped write that antiunion bill is getting a strong push on the ground from the democrats and strong push from sandy pasch. i think she has an outside shot there. i think the democrats will pick up three, i think they'll get the majority back, they might get four, but this race is the crown jewel. if they with defeat alberta darlgts, if they can win in that district, that will be very good for the democrats, so enthusiasm here is high, but the fact is no one anticipated this kind of turnout, so what does it mean on a tuesday in august that has no record of this happening before. >> the race that you called the crown jewel, the legislator darling, senator darling, is very close to scott walker? she is very close. she has been instrumental in pushing forward the radical agenda. she has had $8 million poured in to support her from out of state. the comment was made earlier on this network about the democrats have outraised the republicans, that is not true. the republicans have far

should point out, in some districts it has been at presidential levels, such as the case with roberta darling, who really is the closest ally to governor scott walker, who was very involved in writing the anti-union legislation. she is being challenged by sandy pasch whoo is up against almost $9 million. think about that, these are rural areas in wisconsin. i go back to my roots of fargo, north dakota, and i think of senators -- what would he do if he was facing an avalanche of $8 or $9 million, in a rural area, in a small town? i just find it absolutely -- put on the tv, lawrence, without seeing one bad ad over another, you can't turn on the radio without hearing one bashing ad over the other, it's one of the archives, it's exciting being -- >> ed, the polls close at 9:00 p.m., how quickly will they get the votes counted in these districts? >> that's a great point, there are some election experts here in wisconsin that think this is going to roll in pretty fast, that we may have all totals in by 11:00 p.m. eastern time tonight, and so i think we're going to have some conclusions here within
