and roberta gonzales just got on scene in solano county. how's it looking near the fire? >> reporter: it's currently 81 degrees here. we are standing in an area that has already been burned by this rio vista fire. the winds are out of the north 20 to 30 miles per hour making this an incredibly difficult blaze to battle. in fact, take a look at this terrain. firefighters are telling me this is terrain that's very difficult to battle because it contains grass and brush and timber. and this fire has a every allotted of valleys and hills. it preheats the environment the terrain in front of it and then it runs quicker so in fact if you look at this hillside you can see a plume from the fire burning on the other side of the ridge. that fire is still located about two miles on the other side of the ridge running very quickly. so far 1,000 acres have burned. only 10% of the fire has been contained at this particular time. and this is the only way to get to the fire. there are no roads accessible. so firefighters are having a very difficult time with this blaze that will continue

. >>> let's head out to roberta gonzales in solano county where firefighters are now facing the problem of flare-ups. >> reporter: take a look at this right now. this is what it looks like after a fire runs through the hills here in the suisun city area. 1,000 acres already burned. the biggest problem now for the firefighters, not only the fire that continues to burn on the other side of the ridge there, a good two miles in, but the flare-ups that continue to pop up. in fact, my photographer scott and i were standing at this exact location just after our 5:00 newscast when we had indeed a flare-up immediately in front of us. we were able to capture some of the local residents trying to put the blaze out themselves because this indeed is their property. they tried with shovels. they tried with their own fire hydrant no success until we called the fire department. we were at a staging center. but i spoke to one resident about this flare-up and today's fire and here's what she had to say. >> i just got a phone call that our property was on fire and my dad and i came out. when we saw it, we
