roberta gonzales is in novato to tell us what precautions you have to take if you are out on some bay good morning. it is currently 50 degrees here at this state park. it's too cold for the snakes to be out yet. they are still sleeping. but snakes like warm weather just as we do. so they will be out later on this morning. over the weekend i learned of two separate cases one in the north bay, one in the east bay, where hikers were bitten by snakes. on average, we have over 800 people in the state of california that are bitten by snakes and usually a couple of those bites are fatal. we do have the venomous north pacific rattlesnake here in the bay area and so we want to help you out and give you a few tips if you are hiking in beautiful state parks. first off, it is always advisable stay on your hiking course and also, be sure you hike with somebody else. secondly, if you do stop to rest, try not to sit on any kind of logs or rocks because those are perfect places for snakes to sleep. be observant on the trail. don't scare a snake or walk up on one. if you get bitten, call 911 immediate
