kpix 5's sandra osborne is live in fremont but first roberta gonzales in the weather center. >> yes, good morning everybody. the heat wave is going to last at least pretty much the next couple of days here in the bay area. gradual cooldown but then we have another couple of days that we do exceed 100 degrees. live weather camera looking outdoors at san jose where yesterday, it was 96 degrees. today? just a couple of degrees cooler. take a look at the temperatures though. slow to cool down from an overnight low of 67 degrees. and the livermore area. santa rosa at 55. we do have low clouds and fog stacked up next to the coast this morning. so relief there but inland areas no chance. up to 109 degrees for the red highlighted areasst that's where we have the -- areas. that's where we have the excessive heat warning in effect. temperatures today at the coast into the 70s and 80s, 90s peninsula. still hot los gatos at 94. east bay, you are sizzling up to 110 in the brentwood area. otherwise 108 in walnut creek. and we did have a record high temperature of 100 yesterday in san rafael. today

. >>> roberta gonzales has been tracking this hurricane for a long time.just seems to be looking worse and worse. >> it certainly is, anne. and the big reason for that is it continues to wobble over those warm gulf of mexico waters. keep in mind, just outside of galveston, the water temperature is roughly 86 degrees. and that's exactly what that hurricane needs to gather strength and momentum. it just fuels off the warm waters. this is a beautiful view right now of this particular hurricane as it is now already producing those rain bands over the coast of texas. now, harvey is right now considered a category 2 hurricane. by the time it makes landfall it will be a category 3 hurricane which is devastating and certainly life-threatening. a hurricane needs warm water to fuel strength and on land it will become a 1 and then you will see remnants of harvey but this will take its toll. we are anticipating between now and wednesday up to 35 inches of rain in the lower and midsection of the coastline of texas through louisiana. at home partly cloudy skies. 50 sant
