really rough commute for people out there this afternoon, especially in the north bay. >> ktvu is roberto gonzalezas been out on the roads this afternoon. roberto. the last time we checked, you were driving through the east bay. where do we find you now? >> we're on 680 heading south now, so we're heading towards the benicia bridge. and we've been noticing a lot of slowdowns and also a lot of the on ramps and off ramps onto any of the freeways are flooded. there's also a lot of ponding on the side of the freeway as well. and that's because the cars, as soon as you get more of a volume of people on the roads, it's swooshing all of that water to the sides of the road. so you have to be very mindful of that. also, i noticed sometimes if you're in the fast lane, like let's say we're 680 south, if you're driving 680 north, and again, if you're in a fast lane, that water comes up and over the barrier and smacks your windshield and it blinds you. the visibility is already limited. at this particular time. it's down to about a quarter of a mile. lots of showery activity. the winds have been blustery out o

meteorologist roberto gonzalez has been tracking it all, and she joins us now with the latest on theituation. heather. >> you just painted a beautiful picture. it absolutely perfect. and this storm has been spot on as far as the forecast is ned. so let's see where it is. now. you can see the tightly coiled core is right off shore from the pacific northwest, and the frontal boundary is just braced up and down the state of california as we zoom in. see all these bubbles here? this is an indication of all the different storm reports we received across the bay area today. it's over 160. so as of right now, the storm the frontal boundary has bypassed as but behind it we have a lot of backwash, a lot of rain showers. still throughout the overnight hours. we can see at this particular time the showers are zeroing in on the santa cruz mountains, where we've seen over 5.25in of rain. even san jose has picked up over an inch of precipitation today. right now, a little bit of light activity right near los altos hills into the mountain view area. this is a nice cluster from bay point through ant

meteorologist roberto gonzalez joins us now. roberto.he bay area. >> and it ain't over till it's over. good evening everybody. it's actually two different systems. it's a double barrel area of low pressure. you can see the center, the core just hanging off the pacific northwest coast side. and then meanwhile, look over the los angeles area. that's the secondary system there that has already produced an inch and a quarter amount of precipitation. behind it here, yet another plume tapping into some tropical moisture. a few light showers in the sunday morning forecast for the north bay. until then, take a look at all the storm reports today. these were over 160 different issues reported around the bay area. now, in its wake, we still have precipitation as we zero on in primarily around the santa cruz mountains, where over 5.5in of rain has accumulated just today alone. meanwhile, we zero in a little bit closer to the san jose area. over an inch and a quarter has fallen there. and then we head on over to the eastern portion of our bay area,

and our coverage continues now with our own meteorologist roberto gonzalez, who is out and checking outdways. and from that dublin pleasanton corridor near 580. i can see you turning around, roberto. how are things looking out there? >> i'm on the dublin side right now. if you go over the barrier, that's a pleasant inside. yes. this is at five 8680 corridor. we had such a great place picked out to share with you, so we could go up about 1000ft in elevation and look down on this freeway. but the congestion is so gnarly out here, we just couldn't make it there. so we pulled over to this particular spot and i wanted to show you why, as you see this ponding on the side of the roadways here, i've been trying to measure it where i stand, it's roughly about two inches deep over there. i ran over there a little bit earlier. it's four inches deep, and i can see that a pothole is now developing as well. so this is what a flood watch means. you're going to see this kind of flooding on the roadways or sidewalks as you head on out your door to make it to where you want to be this evening. you got to

let's bring in meteorologist roberto gonzalez with a look at what we can expect throughout the rest of of this week. any more rain headed our way, roberto? >> yes, sir. okay. yes, indeed. and we'll get to that. i just love that weather picture you just shared with us. but i'm going to one up. you here? our engineer, alan palermo. he is spoiling me because he is sharing with us our live weather camera, looking out towards the golden gate bridge. and i love this image. and the reason is it tells a story. look at the cloud deck up there at 2500ft, and then look at the flag on the fly. it tells you it's a bit on the breezy side. so let me share with you. this is our western pacific satellite, and it shows you where those clouds are coming from. and then look at the current wind speeds right now, 21 mile per hour winds being reported in throughout the san bruno gap. this is live data. 13 in hayward, 14 mountain view and3 international airport. and off the coast, we have a 15 mile per hour wind. these winds are pretty much coming out of the north and northwest, except you see a westerly ther

roberto gonzalez in san francisco tonight with that rockslide right near telegraph hill.etty, you there along the russian river, where tonight, an evacuation order is in place for some low lying areas. but we do begin with our chief meteorologist, bill martin. bill, we got hit hard today. >> we got hit hard today, and it got taken right to the tipping point. the rain moved off this afternoon. late in the afternoon commute. you can see the live radar now, mostly to the east of us in the mountains where there's a winter storm warning. but we reached that tipping point. you could feel it. all the water was coming up. we had rivers and creeks rising, the whole thing now. the rivers, the big rivers. let's take the russian river or the napa river first. that tomorrow morning or tonight late is going to peak at 1 a.m. at 28.9ft. so flood stage begins at 25ft. so it's a little above flood stage. but just know the tops of those rivers just it's moderate flooding is are they go out like this. they flare out. so that last few feet of water is hard to get any elevation on. there's a

roberto gonzalez back with our full forecast. roberto.chilly morning to start the day and put on another layer to walk the dog. >> it was a hard freeze this morning. definitely. we had temperatures well below 32 degrees. we had 29 degrees and throughout the tri valley, napa and in sonoma. and this is why the national weather service has extended the freeze warning for at least one more night for inland areas. then the frost advisory, just about for the entire bay area except the peninsula. but hey, it was 35 degrees in san bruno this morning and 38 degrees right around sfo. tonight we will see a few clouds across the horizon. therefore the temperatures won't be quite as cold, but nonetheless still below freezing in santa rosa, cotati and penngrove as well as windsor. how about pleasanton, dublin, san ramon all the way into alamo 30 degrees including livermore, mid 30s around the peninsula and we are forecasting freezing temperatures. morgan hill through gilroy. i'm looking at our live weather camera. the skies are clear, visibility is unl

let's check back in now with meteorologist roberto gonzalez.e know it's going to be a dicey commute tomorrow morning. and also overnight i think people will wake up and think, whoa, is that thing really going? >> well, depending on where you are. yes. some people around the peninsula and the central bay are okay. it happened while i was sleeping, but once you hit the road, there's going to be a lot of ponding on the roadways, a lot of flooding on the roadways. the winds will still be blowing and there could be possibly a lot of debris on the roads and the sidewalks as well. now, this is what it looks like at this particular time. we're getting nailed across the south bay and also the santa cruz mountains peninsula as well. look at the heavy rain from redwood city across the bay, all the way into the fremont and newark area. and the tri-valley. that nasty five 8680 corridor is pretty sloppy right now. and then we head into the north bay, where novato has plentiful rain showers. this is a powerful system. it's big. it's textbook perfect. look how

our meteorologist, roberto gonzalez is here now with a look at how long we can expect these nice temperatures to stick around. >> oh, not long enough, right. never long enough. yeah, it was a gorgeous day. after a 10th of an inch of rain did accumulate yesterday. and i was following that story you were talking about with coyote creek. heather. and i wanted to give you an update on where we stand. precipitation of normal. and we are doing healthy looking. great. now southern california, even though you had that deluge of rain last week, boy, it still wasn't enough, was it? still experiencing a drought like situation there. but meanwhile, take a look at our temperatures today. for the first time this winter season, we have seen temperatures into the 70s a good ten degrees above average in santa rosa, 72 degrees in san rafael, then 70 apiece in vallejo and in concord, 60 common everywhere except pacifica. at 58 degrees, it's live. it's our weather camera looking out towards the skyline of oakland, where visibility is unlimited at this hour, 57 degrees there, back into alameda. it's in the mid 50

okay, let's check in on our weather and bring in our meteorologist, roberto gonzalez, because some warmer temperatures are on the way. roberta. >> yeah. did you have any rain today? >> i did this morning. >> yeah, it was nice, right? we didn't get a whole lot of rain, but it was just as the computer models had expected and it panned out something like this. 4/100 of an inch of rain in san francisco, 6/100 in hayward, and a 10th apiece in half moon bay and in la honda. again, not a lot, but we'll take it. meanwhile, our air temperatures today banked from 56 degrees and 2/100 of an inch of rain in fairfield to 50 in san francisco, pacifica and san mateo. otherwise, everybody warm to the low and mid 60s. it was 65 degrees in redwood city and in redwood shores. so the passage of that cold front, it is out of here. upstream we're looking at another area of low pressure that will not affect us. it will affect eureka and crescent city. hey, eureka today picked up a full inch of precipitation. meanwhile, we're taking a look at our local satellite imagery. i'm going to zoom on in. i see a little g

our meteorologist, roberto gonzalez is tracking it all for us. roberta. >> heather. this one definitely has a12 punch. so let's get to it with this incoming storm tonight, overnight, you're going to hear the raindrops on your rooftop. you will hear the wind blow. you could potentially even hear the thunder and see the lightning. that is certainly possible with the instability of this system here. what you're looking at with our doppler radar, it's live activity. it's live data. these are just renegade rain showers and advancement of the main front. and we see some copious amounts of precipitation right there lining the peninsula across the bay waters, making tracks towards fremont and union city and lifting up towards right there the 680. if you're making tracks out of san jose and heading north towards the tri valley, there you have more rain showers, a cluster of activity around vallejo, benicia, martinez, and backing through hercules. and as we take a wider look again, all this is just the leading edge of what you can anticipate. so the morning commute tomorrow is

and we do have team coverage tonight, meteorologist mark tamayo and roberto gonzalez closely tracking this storm. roberta, you are out in the field, but we'll first go to mark tamayo with a breakdown of our forecast. hi, mark. >> hi there. christina. yeah, those rainfall numbers continue to go up quite a bit. we're not just talking about a 10th of an inch or a quarter of an inch. several inches of rainfall today to report here in the bay area. take a look. kentfield in marin county, over 5.5in of rainfall. santa rosa, napa, san francisco all over three inches. scotts valley 2.63. san jose approaching one inch. and that number really has been changing quite a bit just over the past few hours. as the system finally made its move into the south bay. as far as the river. check. the russian river at guerneville right now is approaching 30ft. expected to go above flood stag. tomorrow morning at 8:00. could be cresting at 36.6ft. so that number has been kind of trending up, at least in terms of the forecast. and also the napa river at napa right now is 22.9ft expected to crest at 28.9ft abov

with meteorologist roberto gonzalez here in the weather center.hanging out at lunchtime at the home, just getting a little sun. it felt great. i think i saw you 70 and in a number of cities out there. roberta. >> i was telling mike earlier that my dog was just rolling around like enjoying the sun. he said i was doing that in the lawn also. >> that's true. i was yeah, i love basking in the sun. >> it was the first time this winter season we've seen a whole handful of 7070 degrees in concord, 70 in vallejo. how about 72 in san rafael and 73 degrees in santa rosa? pretty close to that today in fairfield and also in oakland as well as in alameda. we've got clear skies right now. visibility unlimited as we look out towards oakland, where currently it's 51 degrees. it's 46 in the city, 52 san jose. and how about mid 40s in napa? this area of low pressure we've been monitoring it. it's a massive storm there. it's got another system embedded in it. and then look how far out that plume extends. it's not only going to bring a whole bunch of rain to the paci

roberto gonzalez, you've been a very busy one today. >> so today, how about the past couple of days, right. because we wanted to set you up for this powerful storm. and boy, mike, you got my attention when you started talking about the winds, i wanted to share with all of you some information that we noted earlier today. mineta international airport, with a 32 mile per hour wind gusts and mount almanor in the santa cruz mountains up to 81 mile per hour and wind gusts. and this is why the national weather service has extended the wind warning and the wind advisory until 10:00 tomorrow morning. in addition to that, how about our rainfall numbers up to 5.5in of rain and ben lowman and again, san jose approaching an inch and a half precipitation. that's a lot of rain in a short amount of time. and that's why the flood watch has allowed to extend until saturday evening as well. the ground is exasperated and we still have more rain tonight. overnight through tomorrow morning, this area of low pressure, the atmospheric river with its subtropical moisture, is now due east, with scattered rai

things really going to ramp up as we head into those overnight hours, right to roberto gonzalez as we go, especially those winds. right, roberta? >> absolutely. with the saturated soil that we already have in the copious amounts of precipitation in the forecast and the winds in excess of 70mph along the coastline and santa cruz mountains, you bet there will be downed trees and the potential of downed power lines and or power outages. this is it. it's a powerful system. we have the leading edge of it now impacting the bay area. you see lots of rain showers around the santa clara valley area. we've already picked up 15/100 of an inch of rain in san jose, and nearly 2/10 in milpitas. in just the past couple of hours, east bay has got some action as well, moving out of the tri-valley towards tracy and also discovery bay and hit and miss moderate rain showers from petaluma to nicasio and novato and back through marin city, san francisco. a little bit of light rain at this hour, but let's go ahead and track it together. here it goes. 2:00 in the morning. the frontal boundary passes through

ktvu is roberto gonzalez is out there on the roadways. roberto, where are you at right now?> okay, last time when we left you, mike, we were at that nasty five 8680 corridor in the tri valley where pleasanton and dublin intersects. and we were literally down at 347ft elevation there. the temperature was 57 degrees. now, we came up into the dublin hills, where directly across from valley christian elementary school in the dublin hills. and the temperature bill would love this. it's dropped to 47 degrees with the height of elevation, and the winds have certainly picked up here. and this is why we have that wind advisory still in effect in addition to the flood watch. now, earlier we were sharing with you a lot of the ponding on the roadways. it's difficult to share all that with you now because it has darkened out here with the sunset at 537. but trust me, anywhere you walk you're going to encounter some ponding on the roadways. it continues to rain. i hope you can see the sheets of rain. i checked in with the traffic reports, the incident reports with the california highway p

meteorologist roberto gonzalez. take it away. >> isn't it wonderful?looks great up. >> there, especially after a dry january. now we have a fantastic february. let's get to that tahoe forecast. sure, we still have a winter storm warning in effect until 10 p.m. tomorrow night, but an additional 2 to 5ft of snow is anticipated. the snow levels all the way down to lake level. now we go from the mountains to the sea to the ocean, where we do have another warning in place. this one is for the high surf until 3 a.m. saturday morning. some of the waves up to 25ft could even see them capping out at 30 to 35ft. right now i've just noticed about 12ft waves off bodega bay. so this is it isn't that big and it's beautiful. it's this area of low pressure. it's bracing up against the west coast. you see right here, the core, the center of the low. this is the frontal boundary. it's encompassing the entire state. and right here on its heels, yet another plume of moisture. this is what's going to produce a chance of some rain showers on sunday morning in the north bay.

starting out with a little bit of rain earlier today, let's check in with our meteorologist, roberto gonzalezbecause things are about to change. >> absolutely. heather and our computer models were spot on as far as forecasting the precipitation. and it depends where you are today, not only for the rain, but the view outside. take a look at this now. it looks like a picture, doesn't it? looks like it was painted. isn't that lovely? we have several layers of clouds this afternoon. anywhere from 900ft really not visible. as we're trying to look out towards the rio vista area. but 2300ft, you can see those clouds and then another deck and other parts of the bay area, about 20,000ft. those clouds squeezed out some raindrops today, and a 10th of an inch of rain was recorded in la honda and then petaluma, san francisco, coming in with 4/100 of an inch, castro valley with shy of a 10th of an inch of rain. anemic cold front blasted through the bay area. it is producing some copious amounts of precipitation in this northwestern section of the state. even some sleet atop mount shasta, the pacific northw
