( mark ) a california doctor is in jail... charged with having sex with at least three minors. benjamin shettell has a practice in redding. the physician was arrested on 50 different charges. the allegations surfaced when an ex-boyfriend sent a message to the doctor's coworkers saying that shettell was having sex with multiple underage boys. at least one of the minors he's accused of having sex with was a patient. he is being held on 3 million dollars bail. .( darya ) a former san francisco international airport screener has pleaded guilty to receiving a bribe as a public official. joseph scott admits he allowed 50 pounds of cocaine to pass through his x-ray machine. police say scott accepted around 45-hundred dollars to allow the drugs to pass. the man who bribed scott was sentenced last week to four years in prison. he admitted to smuggling cocaine and marijuana through s-f-o security for several years by paying scott. a total of seven bay area airport screeners face similar charges. ( darya ) one of the most senior officials in the catholic church is accused of a string of sexual assault charges. cardinal george pell is facing multiple charges from several accusers in australia. pell has denied any wrongdoing. he says he plans to return to australia where he will defend the charges. during a government investigation in 2013... pell apologized for historical abuse in the church. he also acknowledged that cover-ups by others allowed pedophile priests to continue abusing children. pell currently serves as a top adviser to pope francis and is the vatican's top financial adviser. ( mark ) president trump is promising a surprise when it comes to the republican health care bill. but the president is not offering any details about what that surprise might be. so far nine republican senators have opposed the current bill. a usa today poll shows that only 12 percent of americans support the bill that was released by republican senators last week. according to the congressional budget office, about 22- million americans would lose coverage under the plan. ( mark ) a san mateo couple claims police went too far during a recent traffic stop.( darya ) they say it started when they honked their horn at another driver. kron 4's j-r stone has the story. they claim the driver they honked at told police they had a gun.nats.this video has now been seen more than 17- thousand times on jennifer thomas's facebook page. it's video that shows her boyfriend, david solano, being ordered to the ground by san mateo police officers. when she yells that david isn't resisting arrest you can see an officer point his gun at her. three days later and she is still thinking about what happened.sot it scared me obviously when i seen him point the gun at me but you can see the 15-20 officers behind me with guns pointed so it was terrifyingthe couple says everything started when they were traveling to safeway to get food for their children. david honked at the car in front of them. the man inside pulled out his phone and started taking pictures of their car, david pulled up beside him, there was a brief argument and the two drove off. it appears the man who was honked at called police saying that david had a gun and made a threat. a short time later the two were pulled over and officers ordered them out of the car.sot the first words were.put your hands in the f-in airat that point i was like what is going on.the couple tells us they don't own a gun and while david did curse during the argument no threat was made. officers later let them go but they both believe david was lucky to not have been shot when he was ordered to the ground.and they're both now fearful that what happened then could happen again with a much worse outcome. sot i was so scared that he was going to be shot. sot i feel like i'm a prisoner in my house because i can't go out and buy my son milk or diapers or either of my kids i can't go out with my family out of fear of being shot by a cop. not harassed but i feel like we could be shot by a cop. ( mark ) the san mateo police department relased this statement overnight. it reads in part: "during this high risk stop, the female passenger in the vehicle directed an object at officers which was later discovered to be a mobile phone. officers, at that time safely detaining solano for safety, and not knowing whether the alleged firearm was in the vehicle, pointed a firearm at thomas until solano was detained." we've posted the entire response from police on kron4.com ( darya ) we now know the name of the suspect in the death of an australian tourist in san francisco. the tourist is identified as 33-year-old matthew bate. he was killed during a fight outside a hotel on van ness avenue. police arrested the suspect inside a nearby hotel. he is 34-year-old david murillo of hesperia -- which is in southern california. murillo is in jail and is expected to be charged with murder. ( mark ) breaking news we are following this morning... the leader of isis may have been killed in an airstrike. the russian military claims that it killed abu bakr al- baghdadi last month. russian officials say the strikes targeted an isis meeting that was being held in syria. they claim that the strike also killed 30 mid-level isis leaders and about 300 other fighters. u-s officials have not yet confirmed russia's claims. there have been multiple reports of baghdadi's death in the past that have turned out to be false. ( darya ) and more breaking news... the death toll from the deadly london apartment fire increased overnight to 30. dozens of people are still recovering and officials fear that the death toll could still rise. 125 families were inside the building sleeping when the fire broke out. fire officials are still trying to figure out how the fire started wednesday morning. earlier today...queen elizabeth and prince william spent time visiting the victims at the hospital. ( darya ) today... the jury in the bill cosby rape trial will begin their fifth day of deliberations after signaling that they are deadlocked. the jury has been deliberating since monday and yesterday the judge ordered jurors to continue deliberating. the jury told the judge they were unable to find unanimous consensus on any of the three charges against cosby. cosby is accused of drugging and raping andrea constand in 2004. cosby's publicist says this deadlock is a good sign for the defense team. ( mark ) a rare moment of bipartisanship in the nation's capitol. republicans and democrats faced off in the annual congressional baseball game, just one day after an attack on the republican team during practice. capitol police officer, david bailey, who helped end the attack threw out the first pitch. on wednesday morning, a gunman shot four people at the republican practice field including the majority whip steve scalise. the gunman was killed by police. during the game last night, leaders from both parties called for less heated ( mark ) doctors say congressman scalise remains in critical condtion but his health has improved. ( darya ) low-income families often times, find themselves having to stretch every dollar... and sometimes that means sacrificing foods with nutritional value.( mark ) for those who do need a hand to get by and survive, there are programs here to help. kron 4's jeff pierce shows us how one group in the south bay makes sure people are getting fresh food every day. the second harvest food bank of santa clara and san mateo county parks it's eighteen wheeler in the court yard of the katherine smith elementary school in san jose. from there they unload pallet after pallet of fresh fruits and vegetables and a variety of kitchen staples for the hundreds of low income families that rely on them each month.here in silicon valley just because we have a strong economy doesn't mean we don't have a hunger problem. in fact we call it the silicon valley paradox because the cost of living is so high.we serve over a quarter of a million people a month and that is the equivalent of three sold out crowds a month. so the need in silicon valley is huge.many of those that the second harvest food bank serves are from immigrant communities that are discovering foods they've never encountered before. second harvest has a nutrition program to introduce them to what are their first experince to many foods.we have a lot of people from latin america, vietnam, china and other countries so some food is not familiar to them. so we come out to sites do food demonstrations and cook with food they'll be receiving that day. so they taste the sample they have recipes and when they go home they feel much more empowered to cook with those items.we feel very strongly about getting nutritious food into the hands of families with children.if we start early when kids start to learn to eat and we incorporate these food items already in their diet chances are we are already to fight against future diseases like diabetes and obesity. whether the focus of the second harvest food bank is disease prevention or maintaining a balanced diet for struggling families, it is a mission approached with enthusiam.the more we can do to help them and provide them with resources to get on their feet and to be healthy and to do well in school and at work the better we are for everybody. it's just amazing to be out at sites, engage with clients, learn about their cultures and really help promoting health. it's amazing.in san jose jeff pierce kron four news. (james) a man is robbed at gunpoint at a park in the middle of the afternoon... and this morning the robbers are still on the loose. it happened at the rincon valley community park in santa rosa yesterday afternoon the victim says he was pushed into the bathroom and one of the robbers held a gun to his head and demanded his stuff. he was then hit in the back of the head with the gun. the robbers are described as white men in the 30's with facial hair and were wearing black leather biker-style vests. (james) 14 people in san francisco were poisoned after eating "death cap" mushrooms. health officials say it happened last december and most of the victims recovered. but three people needed liver transplants, including an 18-month-old girl who suffered permanent brain damage. doctors say these people ate mushrooms collected from the wild. the c-d-c says people should let a mushroom expert examine the mushrooms you've collected before eating them. (darya) california is at the top of the list when it comes to housing the state's 130-thousand inmates. governor jerry brown's budget projects it will cost over 75- thousand dollars to imprison áeach felon over the next year. that is the highest i nthe nation, and it has nearly doubled since 2005. critics say the 11-billion- dollar corrections department budget should be lower because lawsuits have forced the state to trim the inmate population in the past decade. but the prison guards' union says the inmates who remain are the most dangerous and carry higher costs. (james) president trump is launching a major push for a one-trillion-dollar overhaul of the nation's roads and bridges. president trump is planning a series of events this week to highlight his effort to modernize highways, waterways and airway systems. president trump's agenda has been overshadowed by ongoing probes into whether campaign officials or associates colluded with russian officials to influence the 20-16 election, as well as scrutiny over president trump's firing of f-b-i director james comey. (james) former f-b-i director james comey will testify before the senate intelligence committee this week. the testimony involves the investigation into possible coordination between the campaign of president donald trump and russian officials. comey could address private conversations with the president and whether the president asked him to drop the investigation into former national security advisor michael flynn. the testimony is set to begin on thursday morning. we will bring you coverage all morning here on the kron four morning news. (darya) 14 people are under arrest after pro-and anti trump rallies turned violent in portland. the rallies were in response to the deadly stabbing of two portland men who tried to stop a man's anti-muslim tirade. police began clearing the area after they said protesters were hurling objects at officers. the rally was originally organized by a conservative group in support of president trump. a number of community groups organized counter demonstrations to rally against hate and racism. officers in riot gear had to use pepper spray to subdue the crowds. (james) state officials are testing a new warning system at the oroville dam. the new siren was installed to replace the old one which was lost in february as water flowed down the emergency spillway. engineers are also working to find out why the spillway failed, forcing the evacuation of nearly 200- thousand people. so far they have identified 24 possible areas that could have contributed to the damage. many people who evacuated their homes say they are more prepared if the dam fails again. (james) crews are now demolishing parts of the old spillway. the goal is to have a new spillway operational by the next rainy season. (james) a new york city ballet dancer jumps into action and saves a man who was pushed onto subway tracks over the weekend. (darya) 31-year-old gray davis is a dancer with the american ballet theater. he says no one was acting to help the homeless man who was pushed onto the tracks on saturday night. davis then jumped onto the tracks and lifted the unconscious man onto the platform. he says his ballet training helped him with lifting the man and then lifting himself back onto the platform. a woman was arrested for pushing the man onto the tracks. davis says he was not dancing that night due to a herniated disk injury.
