they now consider him a suspect in robyn's disappearance.ut giordano's attorney, michael lopez, insists his client has done everything police have asked. >> the last day of his stay here in aruba we specifically asked justice if he -- if they needed for him to stay a little bit longer. they didn't answer it. and at the airport they detained him as a suspect for murder. >> reporter: plus, says lopez, there's no proof and no motive. >> the current outside is very harsh. it will take you away in minutes if you don't watch out. and i think that's what happened. >> reporter: there may be no body and no evidence, but there is an ominous backstororhere. one of gardner's closest friends, christina jones, knew about robyn's secret relationship and had her concerns. >> you can kind of get a vibe from someone if they have someone good or not great in their life, and i just didn't get that vibe. >> he was, let's say, quite physically aggressive. >> reporter: this woman who said she recently dated him claims to have bumped into him just days before he le

robyn's boyfriend in maryland doesn't know why. >> it's been nearly four weeks now. obviously, i'm frustrated. what i'd like to see happen, canines, more people, more searches, comb the island, look under every rock, under every leaf, and find her. >> this is where it all began, on the south end of aruba, giordano says he and robyn were snorkeling here in this area around 4:00 p.m. he reported her missing around 6:00 p.m., leaving two hours unaccounted for. police and divers into the water as soon as robyn went missing, but after four days of searching and no sign of her, they gave up and haven't been in the water since. which leaves the rest of aruba's rugged terrain. >> this is my side of the island. >> dan is a novelist living in aruba on and off for nearly two decades. >> aruba is about 17 miles long, seven miles wide, you can drive the entire island in an hour. >> he drove us 15 minutes from the spot where robyn vanished. he says police still haven't been here. >> this is a very typical location, foliage, crags, hundreds of locations like this around the island.

u had actually been in touch with robyn while she was in aruba. how did she sound?id she say to you? >> well, we weren't able to actually verbally talk very much. i'll tell you, she had on -- on tuesday morning on the 2nd of august at 2:05 in the morning she had posted on my facebook wall and i still don't really know what it meant but she posted on my wall this sucks. i tried to get ahold of her. i didn't get that message till the morning when i got to work and tried to find outut what wa going on. she really didn't respond. the last time i heard from her was later on in that afternoon sometime around 3:00 in the afternoon. she sent me an inbox message through facebook saying, you know, i love you. i care about you and we'll talk about this and sort it out when i get back. >> she had been having -- >> and that was the l lt i had heard from her. >> and she had been having kind of a tough time lately. she recently had been laid off from her job. was she struggling with that. >> she was definitely upset about that as anybody would be. and, you know, and that's a hard

of robyn. only published pictures of the two of them together. abc news has also learned that giordano claims, after the lovers paid the bill they headed towards the e water. the first time in, robyn cut her toe and left the water because she was bleeding. investigators later found a spot of blood near where the couple's rental car had been parked. they're still working on the forensics. according to the abc news source, robyn went back into the water a second time with giordano. it was then, that giordano believes she was pulled under by treacherous currents and drowned. plus, the source also says, helicopters flying over the coast that day spotted two sharks and a giant sea turtle in the same area where giordano and robyn went into the water. and what about that $1.5 million insurance policy, as being investigated by authorities? >> we knew from the suspect himself, that travel insurance was taken out. that's what we're investigating. >> reporter: the abc news source that a witness was presen

when it comes to robyn gardner as to who the beneficiary is there, they won't say. been some speculation. at this point, though, we did have a conversation with american express, and they said, you can't just take out a policy on somebody else and list yourself as the beneficiary. they would in fact say, robyn would have to sign a document that says, yes, i make gary giordano my beneficiary. now, did she do that? could she have been fooled into doing that? we're still digging on that one. >> he's been in jail two weeks now. do we know where he's being held and what his conditions are like? >> reporter: he's at the kia prison, and what's interesting about that, authorities say he's living a lot better than he was in the local jail. apparently it's a much bigger room he's in. 33 by 33 feet. now he's got to share it with two other men, but at least he gets to move around during the day. he gets to interact with other prisoners, which he never had the opportunity to do. he's got visiting days twice a week, although authorities say nobody has visited him. he does not hav
