[ gunfire ] that was celebratory gun in kabul after the taliban claim to have seized the panjshir, but the resistance denies it's been defeated. the u.s. president has tapped former delaware's governor to lead the administration's afghan resettlement efforts. more than 40,000 evacuees including afghan refugees have been admitted into the u.s. we're hearing from some as we sat down with a former afghan translator starting his new life in america. he's worried about the family he left behind. >> reporter: this is the first day of a new life for zubai and shabano. this tiny one-bedroom apartment in buffalo, new york, is their new home.
