i am talking about an immigrant doctor who is on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic in rochester, minnesota. she's asked that her name not be used publicly because she's applying for a green card. she came to the united states from her home country for postgraduate medical training and completed not one but two fellowships in critical care and pulmonary diseases at the mayo clinic, which happens to be where my husband gave the plasma, which we hope will save other lives. under normal circumstances, an immigrant doctor who completes his or her postgraduate training in the u.s. has to leave the country for at least two years when their residency is completed. now, let's look at that again. they have studied in an american medical school, they have completed their postgraduate training in the u.s., but then they have to leave the country for two years when their residency is complete, just at a time when we need more doctors and more health care professionals and not less. why? because our immigration laws require them to be outside of the country for two years before they can apply

we worked on a resolution, my office and i asked my two colleagues, joe wilson and lisa blunt rochesteronsor with me. that will be pup. hopefully in the come weeks but it does three things. i mean, first of all, look, our desire to mourn together is profound. we do that as a country every time. tomorrow is memorial day and we'll be mourning as a country for the soldiers who lost their lives in battle. we want to come together to ease the impact of this crisis. the resolution will say that we want to have a moment of silence on the floor of the house each day we open until this pandemic has passed. we need a memorial once this pandemic is passed in place to be determined where all of us can go and remember all those who we have lost and know that the house of representatives absolutely sends our deepest, deepst condolences to all the families who have lost their loved ones. this fight isn't over yet. we will soldier onto make sure that we're doing everything we can to address this crisis. it's ongoing. it's definitely not over yet. we absolutely, at the same time we're moernurning people
