today as we follow breaking details about that unresponsive plane originally on its way from rochester, new york naples, florida. according to the associated press, the faa says that plane has crashed in jamaica. it was registered to buckingham properties also in rochester, new york. that plane two u.s. fighter jets were following and monitoring the aircraft but broke off its trail as the plane passed into cuban airspace. let's go to trace gallagher following this since it started. trace? >> it happened at 8:45 this morning taking off from rochester. it flew for the better part of six hours. it crashed north of port antonio, jamaica and did not hit anything or injure anyone on the ground. faa has not confirmed that yet. we're getting our information from the jamaican authorities. the plane at some point at 25,000 feet from flying from rochester to naples lost contact. it was trailed by two f-15 fighter jets. those fighter jets spotted it at 25,000 feet. they noticed windows had iced over, frosted over, which is a clear sign that something catastrophic happened. the plane lost pressure and it was

this plane took off right around 8:30 this morning from rochester, new york. it was supposed to land in naples, florida. right around 10:00, 10:30 this morning, the control towers lost communication with the pilot on board and right around that same time, they're reporting the plane decreased and dropped in altitude some 3,000 feet. and that then led to the beginning of many, many questions as far as what was happening on board this flight. one interesting part about this, as we have been watching the southward trajectory of this small aircraft, it did fly through cuban air space. and so very quickly, u.s. government, cuban government, had to work together, had to cooperate. and so we know that that happened. we know that cuba did not consider this a violation of cuban air space. so cuba had to scramble a jet. we know the u.s. had scrambled f-15 fighter jets. we sent a couple pilots up there just to try to get as close to this small aircraft as they could to see what they could. and what they reportedly saw was the pilot inside of the plane in the cockpit, ini

gotten a few details now on that norad tracking two unauthorized aircraft that took off from rochester, new yorkriginally to florida, now to somewhere over cuba or even past cuba at this point. nbc news providing a little more information here from u.s. officials which say that the two f-15 u.s. military aircraft that were tracking that flight had broken off. because the flight flew into cuban air space they were broken off. they could see the pilot unconscious and slumped over inside the cockpit. they tell officials the plane was flying at about 27,000 feet. that altitude, however, is said to be unusual for that type of commercial aircraft. it is a pb 700, and it is unclear to officials why the pilot would have set his autopilot at 27,000 feet. the passengers had succumbed so hypoxia, but they could not tell too much. they had occupants, plural, but couldn't tell the number of occupants. that plane was enroute from rochester, new york to florida. we have a little more information from norad's twitter account, norad saying the unresponsive aircraft had flown into cuban air space. back to you. >>
