and there was this thought that the rockefeller -- he was going to be the rockefeller that was goingt to the white house. karen, i want to shift gears a little bit here, put you a little bit on the spot, or maybe you have a lot to say about it. is the diversity hit on the white house right now fair? >> not yet. not until we see -- i want to see what the full complement looks like. >> but you're hold south judgment. you're not ready to say -- >> initially, disappointing. but if you look at the president's record from the first term, it is excellent. across the board. i also think the white house needs to do a better job of putting out more of those diverse voices and faces because the people are there. we just don't always see them. i do want to see what the full complement looks like when we get to all of the appointments and all of the people resigning. at the same time, you know, look, i also think that there's a bigger picture issue here. this is the kind of thin we should hold any administration accountable for. just as we should hold our own organization, news media organization

rockefeller in west virginia. i will get right to them. i have decided not to run again at the conclusion of this term. not now, but in 2014. i hope each of you can understand that this is an entirely personal decision. it is not a political decision and it is not easy. as i approached 50 years of nonstop public service, precluding time with the children and sharon. i consider the ways for travel in life. there are many other ways, and i know deep within me that in 2014, it is the right time for me to recalibrate and find a new balance. i came as an untrained social worker back in 1964. i actually begun my public service for years before that, working for the peace corps and the department of state. frankly, i was in search of a clear and powerful purpose. i wanted something that was so compelling and obsessive that it would fill me out completely. i did not necessarily wanted to be complicated, but i wanted it to be hard. and living in west virginia, you gave me what i wanted most. it is strong today and 10 years

one example, looking forward 2014, jay rockefeller saying he will not run again. that might be an example. politico points out this. rockefeller's retirement means it's an opportunity for republicans to pick up a seat meaning it's a rough year for senate democrats overall. what's your thought about this? >> well, there's no doubt that politically rockefeller had above average democratic support in a state that is very favorable to republicans so it's very tough on republicans to do what he did, but to bipartisanship and what neil said, i think the president has to convince the public that bipartisanship is more than getting a few people from both parties in the final vote. we need to talk about a bipartisan process, right? that goes to the points i was making and the disagreement i have with matt. he's right that the constitution does provide for my fortarian values and processes within the way that the congress works. but we have to look at the broader evolution here, because the numbers show, i think everyone agrees, more legislation held up to a super majority
