when i marched down to city hall in the wake of the rodney king riots in 1992. the work i did as a student registering people to vote for the 1992 elections as one of the happiest 18-year-olds in america because i had the opportunity to vote for the first time. bothering my friends at l.l.c. 1 and over here at morehouse college, getting them to sign up to vote and coming back to try to get them to pick my candidate. the work i did in civic engagement that took me to us a -- austria as a workshop for international folks for how we could make it real and engage communities that felt left out. fair fight is not new for me. it's a new name, a new project, and has more money than i did in college but the mission is the same. the mission is the mission my parents raised me to understand when they took me and my five siblings to go and vote with them, when we trailed outside the voting booth like make way for duck ducklings. as we watched them go in and cast their ballots and make thems counted. fair fight for me is ensuring that voter suppression finally meets its end
