the most notable is roger stone, alex jones as well.t does that tell you about the direction of the investigation and the kinds of questions they could answer, and what do you think the odds are, hugo, that they actually cooperate? >> well, i think these subpoenas are really interesting. if you look at the subpoena that is for these two guys, like roger stone, alex jones, what becomes clear is that the committee has noted that these two guys, huge figures in trump world were invited to speak at the rally before the january 6th attack, and they were also invited to lead the march from the rally to the capital, but curiously, they didn't attend either. and i think the fact that chairman bennie thompson mentioned this in the letter shows where the committee is going with this, and they want to know did these guys, you know, who are connected to the people -- that are connected to trump world operatives, possibly even to president trump himself, did they have advance knowledge of what might go down at the capitol and was that the reason why

so i don't think we need to necessarily obsess about steve bannon roger stone. there are a lot of other people who know a lot, even if we learned just this week that some of the coup plotters were using burner phones when they're committing crimes. so they were committing a crime. they were attempting a coup against congress to interrupt the resolution of the 2020 election. so just sort of to end on a slightly more hopeful note, the battle for democracy is on, and it does have its defenders and all of us have to kind of buckle up and get ready for defining people in our politics, whether they're as either pro-democracy or anti-democracy, whatever party they're in. >> it is a precarious time. and i know we say this all the time, but i feel like it can't be understated that just the weird moment we are living in that could slide in any direction at the moment. barbara, let's talk about some other legal trouble that trump himself might be in.
