roger taney died on the evening of october 12th. next day voters in taney's home state of maryland approved an amendment to the state constitution abolishing slavery. it was a fitting event to occur the day after the death of the pro-slavery chief justice. a few days later, a group of family members, friends, dignitaries, and onlookers gathered at taney's residence to pay their last respects. cabinet members were there. afterward, a train took taney's body and family members to maryland where the funeral service actually took place. during the next three months in late 1864, in early 1865, lincoln won re-election as president. the union forces under the command of general william t. sherman in georgia continued their march to the sea and eventually northward into south carolina. and congress debated and passed a 13th amendment to the constitution, ending slavery and, in effect, overturning the slavery portion of the dred scott decision.tek&z meanwhile, the public debate over taney's legacy and the meaning of emancipation had begun.

rogers gets carted off the field with a calf injury. into the game with it too. it wasn't all that unexpected. the lions come back with a pair of touchdown passes from matthew stafford to calvin johnson but rogers makes the big return to the field in third quarter. another touchdown there to cobb and a one yard score himself later in the game. he seals it. mvp at the end of the game for rogers. packers win it 30-20. let's go to atlanta. what a disappointing game this was, wow. the falcons hosting the panthers. this is a playoff game. the winner was going to get in. you thought the falcons were going to show up and it be a close game. the highlights tell the story. huge plays by the panthers defense. that's a nice return there. that's a touchdown. this wasn't even close. the score was 34-3 and the falcons got booed off their own home field at the end of the game. they'll go to the playoffs despite the losing record. the panthers go for the second year in a row. with the regular season over and the playoff team set we head into the wildca
