sonoma county where the brief tornado did occur just southeast of two rock which is southwest of rohnert park, northwest of petaluma. we can look at what the radar looked like when the tornado touched down at 11:00 this morning. the red and green, we're in velocity mode on radar. you can see which way the raindrops are moving. we're looking at the red area where the raindrops are moving away from the radar site in davis and the green area where the raindrops are moving towards, the center of circulation. how did this happen today? the way the winds were aligned in the atmosphere, winds at surface level and winds farther up in the atmosphere moving two different speeds. that gets the air turning over horizontally. that's not rare. what's different today is we had showers that grew into thunderstorms. there was instability in the atmosphere around the bay area. as the thunderstorms grew, the updraft of the growing clouds takes the horizontal circulation and tilts it into a vertical circulation. as that vertical circulation gets more established and reaches down closer to ground level, first you
