rolls royce is in the investigation. very bad. >> so whether or not this plane was flying four hours after that transponder went off or not, what we do know is that the plane was made by boeing, engines made by rolls royce. we know there should be information coming from these companies to give investigators some inkling, some fact as far as what happened. >> exactly. and the absence of it. if everything stopped at the moment when the tran ponder stopped reporting on the radar, then that is still the place to look. that's what investigation techniques tell you. you go back to the last known piece of evidence and start again from there. and i think they have to return there. and boeing and rolls royce better be darn sure that there is no information other than that because it would be extremely egregious and such grief for the families. that's the worst of all of it. they are hanging on every word of every official, and i think the officials have to keep that in mind. >> i know that the u.s. is helping. ntsb is called in

rolls royce and boeing have told malaysia nothing about the transmissions. >> air traffic controllers lost contact with the plane shortly after that, they're thinking around 1:30 a.m. joining us to sort through the twists, retired american airline pilot jim tillman and richard joining us in the studio. first, jim what do you make of the report that we're hearing the plane may have continued to fly some four additional hours after contact was lost? >> well, i can tell you that it's as plausible as many of the other scenarios we've heard. sure enough, there would have been enough fuel for the airplane to fly that far. why wasn't it on radar? i don't know. i don't know how low an airplane like that would have to fly to duck under the radar, probably 400-500 feet under the deck. could they manage that? i don't know. the captain had a flight simulator, very so fiphisticaten his home, if you want to follow that reason. you have to follow logic and common sense. there's not a lot of either one of them applied to this situation. >> still, in the vacuum that exists, people are coming up with a

>> correct. >> rolls royce denying it? i know malaysian airlines is but what does rolls royce say. >> i don't know yet. claim that rolls royce and boeing both have denied it. >> it seems like pulling teeth to get information out of malaysia to get any of this information is either boeing or rolls royce speaking independently not going through malaysian government or malaysian airlines? >> i haven't seen many reports. the whole story here and the whole investigation has been clouded by a lot of contradictory statements and vague reporting. when you look at beginning as discussed earlier the chinese satellite imagery that was wrong, apparently a mistake when you look at the earlier released images from the vietnam memorials of debris floating in the south china sea. there is a lot of speculation and conjecture still. we are not sure yet what these satellite signals could mean or reveal to us. >> you are polite you say contradictory and i say down right bizarre and i don't know why people aren't talking more thank you, sir. >

and i quote -- this is a statement from rolls royce -- "rolls royce continues to provide report to thean airlines. rolls royce concurs with the statement made on thursday, the 13th of march, by the malaysian's transport minister regarding engine health monitoring data received from the aircraft." yesterday, authorities cited two oil slicks in the south china sea, 16 nautical miles south of the last point of contact with mh-370. the first slick was investigated and analyzed and found to contain tiny traces of jet fuel. no jet was found in the vicinity. we do not believe the slick is linked to mh-270. some from second slick was investigated and analyzed and did not contain jet fuel. the investigative team accepted help from all those who can help locate the missing location. when we receive new information, and it has been very fine, we act accordingly. wherever there is a possibility, we have a duty to investigate it. from the beginning of the crisis, we have worked hand in hand with all the relevant authorities, including international agencies, experts and aircraft manufacturers. we h

the rolls royce engines sent out pings that went back to rolls royce that said that the plane had fallen 40,000 feet in a minute. and what i heard today from law enforcement officials here is that the information they're getting has gotten better and better in recent days as different pieces on the plane have sent back different pings to their manufacturers who were tracking it through satellites. these are not pings that were easily obtainable in the days afterwards but as time has gone on, that information has gotten better and they anticipate it will get better going into the weekend. now, will this tell them exactly where it is, they say no, but it's certainly better off than they were just a few days ago. >> after this erratic behavior, 45,000 down to 23,000 back up to 30-something thousand, did it continue flying for four or five hours? >> it continues on for several more hours and the question is, where does it go at that point and what other information do we have about where it ends up? obviously if we knew that we wouldn't be talking. >> some of this information, i don't want y

as far as rolls-royce and boeing are concerned, those reports are inaccurate. >> just yesterday, the chinese media reporteded that government satellite captured images of a possible crash site. malaysian officials say they went to the site and found nothing. rescuers from 12 nations including the u.s. are now taking part in that search, which now spans 35,000 square miles. some lawmakers are addressing some security concerns that have been raised by the missing airliner. demanding that every passport in and out of the u.s. is always checked on the interpol database. the move comes after authorities learn two men on the flight used stolen passports. there is no link that the two have tied to terrorism, but the lawmakers -- >>> no violations, but the california department of health stems from that controversial case that made national headlines. the state investigated the case after the girl was declared brain dead following her tonsil surgery in december. the -- says the hospital did not violate any standards. the family says they're offended by this report because no one interviewed

now, for example, i flew an airplane during flight training that had a rolls-royce engine, the same -- the company that moves the 777's engines, and the plane i flew also had an engine health monitoring system that would gather information during flight, and then once we landed the information was looked at by pointers -- maintainers. here's a picture of the monitoring system. this is on a rolls-royce engine, and this unit senses vibrations to pick up possible problems with engine components. that's one example. now, we don't know if that's the same type of system used on the 777, the missing 777 engines, and other systems on the aircraft have monitoring systems that gather information hour they're operating during flight. that operation can be transmitted to control centers on the ground, so aircraft data and air speed and altitude and engine data can be seen on the ground. according to "the wall street journal" information is sent every 30 minutes and much of this is for maintenance purposes. if maintainers on the ground have information how the different aircraft systems are operat

>> there are reports from "the wall street journal" both boeing and rolls-royce continued to receive information for four hours after it went missing and the plane continued to fly for four hours but malaysian authorities are refuting those reports. check out this map. we're talking about a 2200 nautical mile radius that the plane could have kept flying, that means it could have made it to places far away as beijing or even australia. but again malaysian authorities call those inaccurate. chinese media release a satellite image of what they say could be the plane's debris in the water. so far no one has been able to actually find that and verify if it was in fact part of the plane but that being released from the chinese media and malaysian authorities not happy about that. the search continues for this plane nearing six days since it went missing. china, vietnam, malaysia and the united states are all involved in the search. while they look for pieces of the plane there are counter terrorism investigators also trying to figure out if something may have been -- if terrorism may have

well, now we're hearing that the engines, the rolls royce engines were sending back data twice an hour for four hours. that's perhaps 2,000 miles or more that this plane could have traveled that would put it well out into the indian ocean or some other destination, if it changed course again. now, we have talked to the ceo of malaysian airlines, who said there's no comment about this. the director general of civil aviation here and a spokesman for the prime minister's office both told me that they were trying to confirm these reports and trying to make sure that they were accurate. they said they could not do that. we have been pressing them, trying to get this data, not just for today, but for days, to find out if this plane completely left this area of the map and was moving someplace else. now, if it's true, this raises the spectorer of all kinds of hijacking theories or other theories that may come up, so it's a very important point. we're hoping to hear something in the press briefing coming up here in about an hour and 20 minutes time. we're going to be closely following that, tr
