. >> anything, anything that has touched romaine, anything that is sitting next to romaine. >> the cdcine can lead to e. coli infections, and 32 people across 11 states have become sick in the latest outbreak. of those, 13 have been hospitalized with one patient suffering a form of kidney failure. ten of the recent cases have been in california, a major producer of romaine. this is separate to the romaine-linked to e. coli outbreak that lasted from march to june this year. 210 cases were identified then across 36 states, and five people died. the outbreak was traced to yuma, arizona. this time, investigators are looking closely at california, where there have been ten victims. but the warning remains unusually broad, precisely because the fda has not yet been able to pinpoint where the infected romaine is coming from. >> fda is trying to determine the source of the romaine lettuce, but right now, there has been no common grower, supplier, or brand of romaine lettuce. >> the sweeping nationwide warning is highly unusual but not unprecedented. there was a similar alert regarding spinach

romaine: the china issue is a huge issue for investors.had some glimmer of hope last week based on trump's comments. a lot of cold water was stone on that, partly from some of his advisers. we hear this language from xi jinping. they are so far away from any type of real agreement. this could drag on for maybe another year or so. vonnie: he talks a good game. not doing anything new. a bunch of things that we knew already. romaine: that is part of the big issue. we have known with the disagreement is between the u.s. and china. what we have not seen is any step forward on those issues. that is the key here, right? actually is, are they making moves to resolve this? we know what the u.s. wants and what china wants are so far apart that it will be hard to break that. there was hope once we get past the midterm elections that the u.s. will be more focused on dealing with china. and maybe china will be more loyal to the u.s.. -- the u.s. but it does not sound like we are any closer. guy: the guys on the blog here on bloomberg are thinking about
