romaine, back to you.ot about marijuana stocks this year, and we got news that we are seeing a little more consolidation, potentially in green brand buying aphria. shares of aphria are trading of 21%. here to talk about the industry is a senior analyst with bloomberg intelligence joining us now from princeton. when you look at a deal like this, what does it say about the potential level of consolidation that we might be headed for in the marijuana industry? ken: hi, romaine. one of the things we have been talking about for 2019 is more consolidation. it also speaks to the scarcity value of some of the leading cultivators in canada. constellation bought its stake in canopy an update to almost bought when all tree a 45% stake in chronos, it did it with the knowledge that at some point, these scarce energies could be prone to other outside entities. i don't know the after story --h, but as one of the le leading cultivators in canada, i think this is an opportunity in potentialf this acquired to seize one of t

romaine: a lot more volatility .tocksay, we had 700 that hits 52-week lows, because we have not seen that in a couple of years. that is extending today. normally when we see these big things of these new 52-week lows, what we typically get is the type of companies that you would expect to star -- sort of fall out of favor. bank of america, goldman sachs, alphabet, lockheed martin -- these are real companies with tangible revenue and earnings that are at their lows not only for the year but frankly, quite some years. >> if i know the answer, i wish i could, but it is a where folksnto 2019 think the record profits at we saw the beginning of this year are not going to sustain. january, we had about 5.6% run-up. fallingare in december about 11% or so in s&p. the worst december since 1930 something. that is quite a book and to the year. -- bookend to the year. the sentiment seems so negative that i'm almost afraid to ask this question. months,look back over this is been a long, slow grinding in a market that a lot of peop

romaine: it depends on who you hang out with.ard about when cannabis becomes more legalized is the racial angle. you look at who is imprisoned for having sold it, a lot of minorities, and now people are glass -- $5,000 glass bongs. now that it is legal, there is a whole different demographic that sells it freely. this story really throws that and makes it clear. craig: so many states are trying to address that. historically, these laws have been used against black and brown teens. you see places like new jersey and massachusetts trying to address it. it's a difficult thing to wrap your arms around. a lot of people aren't comfortable with that piece of how this industry is developing. romaine: didn't we see canada try to do that when they got to the point of legalization and try to create an amnesty program? craig: new jersey is trying to expunge the records of people. we think we could get the boat. there is a gridlock between the governor and the president and state senate, they cannot agree on the tax rates. i think it's a very

romaine: is at the only one standing alone?d the divergence in emlatility between the currencies and the volatility gap has narrowed over the past two weeks. is this every convergence we will see -- a re-convergence in the markets we will see in the next year? david: it's a divergence of different kind. this year has been about decoupling the u.s. from the rest of the world. next year will be about three coupling -- three coupling -- recoupling. however, and that's world, the best-performing currency will be the franc. the room for further fed tightening will be limited. large service countries will benefit -- surplus countries will benefit. the rue question is, what should investors being on the lookout for -- be on lookout for as catalysts to feel better about? the two big risks is about brinkmanship between u.s. and china, trump and the democrats. the question is to what extent do the brinksmanship -- is the brinksmanship resolved. that has to do with the reaction of trump, especially with increased market volatility. i woul
