let's start with nadia romero this morning. she's in arcadia, florida. we've been talking about how vital roads and communities have been cut off by the storm. right now there's no indication of when these connections will be usable. what's the latest, nadia? >> it depends on what mother nature brought us. mother nature brought us hurricane ian with the rising floodwaters and heavy winds. now we have to wait for the waters to recede to see how much damage is there and see if people can finally pass normally. we're here in arcadarcadia, flo. we know the worst damage was in ft. myers and the barriers islands. now we're going into day four without electricity. for many of them that's when you get to the life-threatening range. that means they haven't had hot water, their food supply may be running low. this is the peace river here. it is supposed to be only about six to seven feet high. you see this canoe laid out here, the locals say they should be able to get in this canoe and take a nice stroll down the peace river. instead, the river is 24 feet high, fo

cnn's nadia romero is live in ft. myers where folks have been lining up to get much needed help. for people? >> reporter: yeah. well, today there are a lot of people still coming in. not as busy as we saw on thursday. still a steady crowd. people trying to get any help at all. behind me is a library building. we saw 100 people lined up before they even opened their doors. the first person was a man who arrived at 4:00 a.m. so five hours early. just to make sure that he could talk to someone from fema. you saw the blue bus here? blue buses have been coming in and out of this recovery center from other parts of ft. myers and bringing them here. because, remember, people lost their homes and vehicles. that has been an important part of being here today. we have been talking about what happened during the storm, what they lost. one woman said not only did she lose her job because of the storm, she lost her vehicles. she found out she was an identity theft victim today. someone, fema told her, someone filed a claim under her name, using her social security number but her bank account

for more on this let's bring in nadia romero. what can you tell bus this very troubling development just 16 days away, and early voting really under way in a big way. >> reporter: it really is, fred. it depends on how the voters fall when it comes to party lines. when i speak to democratic voters, many are excited to be part of the voting process, can the national spotlight over georgia. when i was traveling to rome, georgia, a district of marjorie taylor greene, who does believe in those election lies that the 2020 election was stolen, many of her supporters had concerns about election fraud and voter insecurity for this election as well. that's what i found in my reporting was it depends on who the voters have been listening to. but overall here in georgia we're seeing record turnout. right behind me in dekalb county, one of two polling locations in this area, and we've been told by poll workers they've already had about 200 people in just the first two hours since the polls have been open this is a spot you can come and vote,

let's bring in cnn's nadia romero reporting live from fort myers beach for us.er: wolf, it is a slow grind and a painful process for so many people who poured in their life savings into these businesses and into properties where they thought they would retire. take a look behind me. this is tuna skin. it is an apparel store, at least it was before hurricane ian came through. now you can hardly tell. attached to the building are apartments and rental properties where people could stay and be close to the beach. but when you look on the ground, that's where you're going to see signs of life. down here, these are swimsuits that likely came from the retail shop, some food containers. just really nothing to salvage. when we talk to business owners and homeowners, many of them weren't eligible for flood insurance, so they have to come out of pocket for all of their repairs. that means going to fema or the small business administration to pick up loans on top of loans. now, this building, residents tell me, was damaged by hurricane charlie in 2004, rebuilt again, now o

. >> cnn's nadia romero joining us live from ft. myers now. nadia, how was that message being received there? >> reporter: yeah. debris removal is definitely happening, but unfortunately the debris is all of people's belongings. they're left with nothing. everything that they had either blew away or was just drenched in those nasty storm floodwaters. so they're starting from scratch, which is why this disaster recovery center set up by fema and the state of florida is so important to people. about 100 people were lined up before the center even opened right behind me. so people are still inside the building right now. there's one room, about another 100 people waiting in line, to talk to someone from fema. this is important for people who had home insurance, maybe didn't qualify for flood insurance, or they were underinsured. they can come to fema for assistance. we've also been hearing stories of people who are finding out that their situation is only gotten worse. i want you to listen to one woman who found out today she's the victim of iden

boris, amara. >> nadia romero, live from florida, thank you so much. which includes fort myers, naples and marco island. congressman, we appreciate you sharing part of your weekend with us. we just saw nadia there at the relief center with more than 100 people already in line. what can you tell us about how relief efforts are going right now? >> well, a couple things. one, i think that the relief efforts have gone, actually, better than i even thought they would be at this point. we took a storm here that not only brought heavy winds, which is something i think, you know, a lot of structures and infrastructures in south florida is accustomed to and can withstand. but it was the storm surge which was overwhelming to many places on the barrier island along the colusa river. that's where the heavy damage came from. if you would have asked me if it made land fall a week ago, i would tell you no. but the local responses from fema has been fantastic in the area. it's one of the reasons we were able to reconnect pine long island to the bridge in three d delay

. >>> cnn's nadia romero reports how western florida is responding to the disaster. >> reporter: days hurricane ian still dealing with the aftermath here in arcadia, florida. so you would likely be able to take this, this is highway 70 right now, a highway that is flooded by the peace river. this is the highway that you would take through town, you could wrap-around, go to palm beach, fort myers. not anymore. not unless you have a boat. so the locales tell me that this river is about four times as high as it normally is. so you have to have a boat. there is an air boat coming right now, they've been out helping people get through, get to the other side where you can get to dry land. they've been also transporting medical supplies, water and mres, food and other things that people may need. you can also see out in the water those are rvs that were once at the peace river campground that hurricane ian just picked up and swept away. so now people are blocked off from the other side of their town and they don't have the resources that they need. they're telling me that they're split in ha

cnn's nadia romero has more. >> reporter: record turnout here in georgia for this midterm election. we're outside a polling location here in dekalb county, and at this location alone the poll workers told me may in the first two hours of voting, they saw 200 people come in. that just speaks to the excitement of people wanting to get out and make sure that they cast their ballot. let's look at those statewide numbers. across the state of georgia already more than 740,000 people have voted. and we saw a dip when you look at saturday compared to friday. saturday only about 80,000 people voted compared to more than 140,000 on friday alone. still, those numbers are quite impressive, especially compared to 2018. we know that people want to come out and vote, and that voter turnout is really record-breaking at this point. there are still some concerns about voter insecurity, voter fraud, voter integrity. we spoke with an election official about how they're working on that in this county. take a listen. >> we are excited to see so many of our voters coming out in historic numbers during adv
