. >> joining us now from seoul, south korea, nbc correspondent ron allen. to have you with us. north korea now alluding to more missile launches. what options do you think the u.s. realistic and other world powers have in curbing these actions. we know that the security council a couple weeks ago obviously did not deter them from this launch. >> reporter: right, and president trump has said that all options are on the table, one analyst in the region believe that the options are somewhat limited in scope and should point the negotiations dialogue with the north. the exercise that so angered the north are set to wrap up tomorrow and the u.s. will maintain a huge military presence here in south korea and in japan as a deterrent. you noted that the security council passed another strong statement of condemnation against the north. but the north tends to shrug those off. it's feeling quite bold and obviously has a lot of capability, releasing those pictures you just showed of the missile that was launched that flew over zwrap pan, that huge projectile. some 50 f

. >> joining us now from seoul, south korea, nbc news correspondent ron allen. ron, good to have you back with us. what is the latest that you are hearing from officials in south korea in and really across the region about the response to this latest provocation from north korea? >> well, those words from secretary tillerson and president trump sound a long time ago because the situation here has escalated dramatically since this morning when that launch happened. without warning, this is the third time that the north koreans have fired a missile toward or over japan. the last time back in 2009 with a warning, but this time no warning at all. the missile flew some 1,700 miles in the air for some 14 minutes and lands on the other side of japan in the pacific ocean. in japan air raid sirens went off. people were warned to take corps. they had no ytd whidea what was happening. the reaction has been strong and powerful. a lot of resolve. now, all this is happening now because the united states and south korea are carrying out military exercises with anger the north k

. >>> we find nbc news correspondent ron allen who has been following the story for you all weekend. we have heard the mixed messages come out of washington from jim mattis and the president on the issue of north korea. as we're getting word of this morning about the u.s. fleeing supersonic jets and b-1 bombers over south korea and a show of force, what can you tell us about how this is playing out to south koreans and the region? this mixed messaging. >> well, that fly over, as you point the out, included the two massive b-1-b bombers, signaling the end of two weeks of military exercises between the united states and south korea and something a very powerful warning to north korea. north korea has said they'll attack guam. the b-1s are based in guam. yes, everyone is still trying to make sense of the trump tweet about talking not being the answer and the mattis comment that diplomatic solutions are always possible. remember, mattis made that comment while meeting with his south korean counterpart. the defense secretary from here. the south koreans, as you know, are adamantly opposed

. >> nbc's ron allen has more on how the suit goes all the way to the white house. >> reporter: goodw are you? as you mentioned, some of the lawsuit, makes pretty dramatic claims. some of its allegations go all the way to the white house. the man suing fox news is named rod wheeler, former washington, d.c. detective who is now a private investigator. wheeler was looking into the murder of a young man named seth rich, a 27-year-old staffer at democratic national committee shot and killed in july of 2016 during the height of the campaign. and a couple of weeks before those damaging e-mails about hillary clinton hacked from the dnc began pouring into the public. his lawsuit claims a fox news reporter made up quotes from him for a story that essentially said that seth rich not russia, was responsible for releasing those controversial dnc e-mails. and that somehow his murder was connected to all of that. according to the suit, it was a fake news story conjured up to "help put to bed speculation that president trump colluded with russia in an attempt to influence the outcome of the preside
