bush, ron christie.mp could draw a lot of attacks wednesday night, and, quote, the critical coverage trump received in july and august has been replaced by a perception that he's bulletproof, at least for now. what do you expect to see at wednesday's debate? >> i think republicans are no longer afraid to go after him. over the last couple of weeks, we've seen kind of an increased willingness to take the gloves off and really tear into fiorin from rick perry, who has departed the race, from ben carson. across the board, people feel like attacking trump is no longer a threat to their own candidacy. i will say this, looking at these poll numbers today and seeing trump north of 30%, the one thing that a lot of -- call them establishment republicans, are kind of reassuring themselves with, is the fact that over the course of the last few republican presidential contests, the anti-establishment candidates have traditionally gotten about 50% of the vote in the early stages of the campaign. whether or not that h

ron christy, founder of christy strategies. i put out a piece where i said the jobs number i thought was very, very solid. there is still some work to be done though. if you're going to fix one thing, what would it be? what do we got to fix? >> i think we have to fix the issue of wages. if you look from 1973 to the present, wages have actually only increased about i think 6% or 9%. can't remember the exact number. worker productivity has increased by 172%. there's a dramatic disconnect between workers actually doing more and benefiting in terms of the economy and the average every day person but we are still doing well in terms of where we were from where we started just a few years ago in the recession. we added now i think we've had 66 consecutive months of private sector job growth. that's some positive development that will help average every day workers. >> ron, you don't believe it was a very good jobs report. how come? >> i don't. when you look at the stats when you sort of delve into this, we still have one of the worst

joining me now to talk about this, patricia murphy, columnist for the daily beast and ron christi formerh. is it unusual to have ads of this tone in the primary season? >> in the primary season, yes, it is a little bit unusual, but everything about donald trump is a little bit unusual, and it's so clearly getting all of the other candidates off their game, and to see jeb bush try and respond with an ad that's kind of an attack ad, kind of not an attack ad, it doesn't really hit donald trump specifically with sort of saying you say you're not a conservative -- you say you are a conservative but you're not. it's just not a tight, aggressive attack ad, and i think that is what jeb bush opponents don't like about him. they also don't think that jeb bush is particularly conservative himself. so you see all of these candidates trying to say should i try to be as aggressive as trump when he's coming after me? they don't really know what to do with him or how to go about it. meanwhile, donald trump is on the stump attacking everybody he feels like doing and i have talked to a ton of trump suppor

christie. i was wondering, what was the message being communicated after the week of 9/11? ron: it was -- it was a tough day for the country. it was a tough day to be in the white house. a tough day for me to advise the vice president of the united states. our entire focus went from what we call domestic priorities to working on a tax-cut to domestic consequences. we grounded all civil aviation. we closed most of the maritime ports in the country. a few days later the president had a national prayer celebration. in the days after the celebration the focus went to prayer and remembrance. as well as those who brought the opportunity to heal as a country. if you look at what our message was, president bush tried to reassure the country that every agency and every entity was doing everything that they could to prevent an attack on the country again and that we needed to move forward and heal and that the terrorists would win if we succumbed and set around and felt sorry for ourselves. it was very difficult for us as a country and very difficult in the white house, but ultimately --
