. >> twitter lit up with comments like this one from fellow director ron howard. no more tony scott movies. tragic day. casey wayans joins us from los angeles. what more can you tell us? >> reporter: hollywood really is struggling to absorb this news that one of its most acclaimed filmmakers has taken his own life. tony scott, the british born director and younger brother of ridley scott jumped to his death from a bridge in san pedro, california, just yesterday afternoon. he was 68 years old. and the los angeles county coroner's office tells cnm tn t death is being investigated. they also said a witness saw him jump off the bridge. tony scott is best known for directing the film "top gun" which, of course, made a huge star out of tom cruise. the movie about a hotshot young fighter pilot became the biggest hit of that year. interestingly scott was at work on a remake of the film at the time of his death along with a series of other projects. he made a second film with cruise, "days of thunder" in 1990. cruise is not the only major hollywood star he has worked with.
