ron matz reports. a determined family in local schools contributes to thousands of dollars being raised to fight cystic fibrosis. >> reporter: it's dodgeball for a cure. molly tango and her sister bridgeet came up with the idea when their mother, 44 years old, died of cystic fibrosis. >> my mom passed away four years ago from the genetic disease cystic fibrosis. she fought hard every day. >> it's been a big part of our lives every day. we like to give back because they did so much to help my mom. >> reporter: stacy was a devoted mom and a nurse. the players know the importance of what will happen here saturday. >> my brother was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at a younger age. and since i was young, i started pushing awareness for cystic fibrosis. >> reporter: saturday will bring 12 schools and 248 participants here to boys latin, all to raise money to benefit cf. >> this event is big for us because we can give back to them and help them raise more money. >> reporter: in memory of a woman who touched t

ron matz is live with the latest. >> reporter: the facility is back open with a new director. earlier today the police commissioner announced that major joseph smith will take over as the new director of the training section. this comes after a trainee was accidentally shot in the head at the department's facility in ownings mills. he remains in critical condition. six officers were suspended pending an investigation. jessica, back to you. >> thank you. police are resuming class room and physical training at the facility but firearms training remains on hold. >>> a washington county man is facing attempt murder charges. police say 38-year-old jenerette dixon surrounded after a 2 and a half hour stand off. they were called to this hagerstown home on saturday after neighbors saw a woman running from the house with a knife in her chest. she survives and is in the hospital. dixon is charged with attempted murder. >>> olympian oscar pistorius will sit in a jail cell for at least one more day as he awaits a hearing on murder charges. tomorrow reeva steenkemp will be laid to rest. he

ron matz is in the news room with the latest. >> reporter: the committee voted 7-4 last night in favor of the gun control bill which would prohibit someone from owning a handgun if they have been involuntary committed for mental health reasons. lawmakers also voted 6-5 to approve a bill that would repeal capitol punishment. in the house a bill to legalize marijuana was introduced. it will make legal for adults 21 and other and create a system to regulate it and tax it like alcohol. lawmakers say it's unlikely to pass. >> the gun control measure will go before the full senate for a debate next week. the bill repealing capitol punishment is expected to pass. >>> we have breaking but not unexpected news to tell you about regarding the baltimore ravens. 6 time pro bowl center matt burk has just announced he's retiring from the nfl. he made the announcement during a ceremony dedicating a community reading center. the 36-year-old has played in the nfl for 15 seasons and of course just won his first super bowl. >>> a $26 million mega millions ticket sold in maryland has been claimed. lottery
