our rosa flores is in the crowd. rosa, has the pope passed by where you are yet? you and what are you seeing as we continue to look at these live pictures? >> reporter: you know, i'm definitely on the parkway and we can see pope francis on the other side of the parkway. but, anderson, i have to tell you, pope francis has been quoted with saying that he would rather have an injured church because it's out and about than a sick church. he wants his church to be not a regulator of faith but a transmitter of faith. and that is what we are seeing here because we are seeing thousands of people coming together to celebrate their faith. every single time that pope francis is on his popemobile, everyone along that route hoping to get a glimpse of pope francis. and hear this. just because you are on the sidelines, on the streets, next to pope francis, you are in the shadow of peter, meaning that you are getting his blessing. so here's what's going to happen. we'll see pope francis come through this row. he's going to come up to the altar. he's going to go up to the altar an

let's go right to cnn's rosa flores. she is on shepherd one. rosa, has the pope settled in?us an idea of what it's like in there? >> yeah, well, all of the journalists are in the back. pope francis and his entourage are in the front of the aircraft. this papal plane is an american airlines commercial plane. so there is no official shepherd one if you will because the vatican doesn't own any plane. so whenever the pope travels outside of rome initially it's an alitalia flight from rome to whatever country he's traveling to. now it's switched over to an american airlines flight. now, for us to board the plane just to give you a little color, we went through a serious security with the secret service. you can imagine boarding a plane with pope francis. we were all sweeped before coming to the back of the plane boarding. and then of course we all tried to get a glimpse of pope francis sitting on the front of the plane. but there are some curtains. we can barely see pope francis hop in and of course settle in. jake, i know you're probably wondering this because you're an awesome

let's bring in cnn's rosa flores, who is following this for us from fox lake, illinois. rosa, police are saying that they're close to identifying suspects but they are still also asking for the public's help. what is it they know that they're not telling everyone? >> reporter: they are asking for the public's help, but the description is so vague, imagine they're looking for two white males and a black male, that it's very difficult for the public to cooperate with them and to give them credible information. that's why right now, they're clinging on the latest evidence, the latest information, and that is first of all that they recovered new evidence yesterday. but that is four days into this investigation, four days after the crime happened. a technician went back to the scene, found new evidence, recovered it, and now it's in a crime lab. they are trying to figure out exactly what it all means. and then you have surveillance video. new pieces of surveillance video, they say, that maps out the before and the after of this crime, but not during the crime. so if you're put

. >>> i want to go straight to fox lake, illinois, for the latest, we have our correspondent rosa flores there on the ground. give us the headlines here of key developments in the search for these suspects, rosa. >> well, this commander says what they're doing right now is called a secondary review of the search. so the initial search, the door-to-door knocking on doors, clearing of buildings in that two-mile perimeter that was established yesterday as been concluded. he says he feels confident that they went through every house, through every abandoned building, through the overgrown marshes and that they don't believe these three individuals, the three suspects, in that particular area. of course they are still following every single lead. he says about 100 investigators from state, local and federal agencies including the u.s. marshals, fbi, atf, are going through every lead and all of the evidence, brianna. so they're going back, checking, reviewing to make sure they didn't miss anything. they also mentioned they have surveillance video. he says the quality of this video varies but t

rosa flores, thank you. the place where this long-time veteran police lieutenant died is a nightmare for anyone searching for the killer, whatever the search entails. we can tell you this, there are heavy woods, a swamp, abandoned buildings, railroad tracks, you name it. officials running the search for these suspects say all three of them could very well be in another state by now. ron martinelli is a former street cop, detective and educator. ron, the question for you is this, perhaps the best news in all of this is that these three fugitives had no chance to pre-plan. no efforts in the offings to help them get through what they're going through. this that has to be a major help to police who seemingly have nothing else to go on. >> i agree. this looks like a spontaneous crime precipitated after a foot pursuit by officer glen wits. is problem is that the suspects have gotten outside of the perimeter of the containment search area so now the investigation takes on a different paradigm. we don't the suspects

our rosa flores has the information. not a manhunt exactly anymore. explain. >> reporter: i just off the phone with the commander in charge of the investigation in the last hour and he tells me that that muntanhunt has been stopped, but that the investigation continues. so what does that mean? he explained to me like this. he said after the shooting and killing of lieutenant gliniewicz, they established a two mile perimeter and they went house to house, they knocked on every door, there is abandoned buildings in this area as well and he said that they scoured through those buildings, cleared the buildings. there is overgrown marsh, and they everyone used night vision to try to scour through the area to make sure that these three suspects were not there. because hear this, here was the worry. there is also a subdivision that wraps around this area. they were very worried about the people in those homes. they were on lockdown. but then again, he said after clearing all of that area, we have called off the search, but the investigation continues because

rosa flores is in the community of fox lake. rosa? >> reporter: good afternoon. we are learning new details about the information that police have that investigators have been gathering, but let me tell you something, investigators here having very tight-lipped about a lot of the details that they do have regarding the three suspects that are the cop killers in this case. the wanted men that they believe killed lieutenant gliniewicz. now, here is what we know. they have what we call golden nuggets, pieces of video that they believe piece together what happened before and after the killing, because here's the deal -- they don't have video of the actual crime happening. it's like putting a puzzle together, knowing that some of those pieces are missing. now we are also learning more about the officer's weapon. the investigator confirming that indeed the weapon that was recovered from the scene is the officer's weapon, and he tells us more. take a listen. >> all i can tell you is it was found near the lieutenant's remains. i can't reveal how many times it was fired.

cnn's rosa flores traveled on the pontiff's jet back to rome where she joins us on the phone. , i would say the pope is exhausted or still running on adrenaline. >> reporter: probably both, alison. it has been a restless night for all of us. about 70 journalists just landing with pope francis in rome. he worked all night long. as soon as we took off, pope francis came to the back of the plane and answered questions. i can't tell you what was discussed because there is an embargo on that information because of technicalities as to how information is disseminated. most of us don't have internet, some folks need to get to a filing center. with that said, there is an embargo on what was actually discussed. that embargo lifted at 6:00 a.m. just in time for "new day." i will be live from the cnn rome bureau with the information from the press conference. it was an eight-hour flight. no one on the plane has slept hopefully pope francis did get some sleep because he is probably exhausted. overall, we landed safely. we are here in rome. i can tell you now i'm on a bus and i'll get my ba
