like gloria steinem, who earned our respect by bringing women's equality into the mainstream, or rosa parks, who refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white woman. she became a powerful symbol of the civil rights movement. and don't forget candace let mayor, who lost her child to a drunk driver. she joined with other grieving mothers to create one of the most successful grass-roots efforts in american history, mothers against drunk driving. for those of you who did the morning sessions, you have taken a closer look at violence and health-care issues within the context of women around the globe. in the midst of gathering information and listening to some statistics, it is hard sometimes to remember the human aspect of these numbers, the personal stories and someone's word spread that is why for today i decided to tell you the will of my own story. i am one of those statistics. it is my hope by sharing some of my story that it will resonate with you and perhaps _ the simple fact that we are all individuals who have choices to make. each of us can make a choice to stand up and join the gro

so a black woman, named rosa parks, was denied a seat because of the color of her skin. dr. king, at the age of 26, took the leadership of that movement and focused the attention of the world on this injustice and the supreme court of this country, the following year, agreed with his position. and then several years later, in april of 1963, it was on a friday evening. it was good friday, dr. king led a march in birmingham, alabama, to end segregation in public accommodations. dr. king was arrested and spent the next 11 days confined in jail and during that time, mr. speaker, he wrote that great document called "letter from birmingham jail" and i only wish that our citizens would look up that letter on the internet and read that letter "letter from the birmingham jail." and leaders announced that local accommodations would be integrated. so after that great victory in berming ham and after dr. king wrote his letter, dr. king and other civil rights leader planned and executed the 1963 march on washington. and so many of us have heard of and some of us participated in that marc

north bay air lifted a 14-year-old girl to santa rosa hospital over the weekend after she was bitten by a snake. it happened yesterday at anna dell state parkeast of santa rosa. a member of the helicopter rescue group said the teen was trying to take a picture of a small black and brown snake when it bit her. rescue workers said the girl's hand was black and blue and swollen. there's no word on what kind of snake it was. >>> they are meant to keep drivers safe and catch people breaking...
