>> reporter: rosemary, that's right. we've been in contact with the darby borough police chief, robert smythe. he'll be in contact with the police commissioner here the township with regard to the ongoing investigation throughout the day today. and please keep in mind that the slain officer lived in the township, but worked for the borough. investigators are withholding the identity of the 26-year-old victim until all of his family are notified. we are told he was shot yesterday once in the chest, second-floor bedroom inside his home on magnolia avenue inside the township. medics rushed him to penn presbyterian hospital but he died due to the gunshot. during if overnight hours, police interviewed a woman who was with the officer inside the house at the time of the shooting. neighbors identify her as his girlfriend. and neighbors tell nbc 10 there have been domestic disputes at the home before requiring police intervention. police say they've recovered a gun and are not searching for a suspect. homicide charges could be f

>> reporter: rosemary good morning to you. i spoke with reverend steven thorne the day he made the decision to have this ceremony remembering the life of officer wilson. he told me that the reverend said he lives in this community too, born and raised in north philadelphia and that this case touches the his heart, just like everyone else's. yesterday, nbc 10 was the first station that talked to the slain officer's family and neighbors in west philadelphia. his grandmother, constance wilson showed us citations, diplomas, awards that covered a wall in her home. she says her grandson -- she cared for her grandson since the age of 2 and affectionately called him robbie anded edsaid he was a good man and a committed father. today's special remembrance mass starts at 10:00 in the morning. at noon there's going to be a peace rally near the shooting scene and as the ministers from surrounding churches in the 22nd and 39th police districts will gather at the 22nd district and pray for officers in the district who lost one of their own.

rosemarie gray makes minimum wage as a custodian. >> we want to be able to take care of ourselves, pay our bills and pay for housing and we can't do that on minimum wage. just can't. they have all these programs like food stamps, you know. they're going, why do you need food stamps? because you've got to eat. when you don't make enough to feed yourself and pay all your bills, you just don't. >> the push is on to raise the federal minimum wage from $7.25 an hour to maybe $10.10 an hour, which would provide a little over $21,000 a year if the individual works 40 hours per week. it's been six years since the minimum wage was raised. some in congress say now is the time to raise it again. >> things are getting better. the problem is, they're only getting better for some. we know that corporate profits have continued to break records while americans are working harder and getting paid less. >> but some, like kentucky congressman andy barr, say raising the minimum wage will cost jobs, citing a nonpartisan study by the congressional budget office. >> if we mandate a higher minimum wage in tho
