rosemary: good morning, i'm rosemary connors for "nbc10 @issue." this morning, we begin with a big scientific advance that's causing both awe and alarm. for the first time, researchers here in the us have successfully changed the dna in human embryos. scientists say it could prevent disease. others worry it could be used for all the wrong reasons. here's more from nbc's kristen dahlgren. kristen dahlgren: in a lab in oregon, as scientists fertilized human eggs, they also swapped out some dna, correcting defective genes that carry disease, proving it is possible to genetically modify human embryos, but fueling a growing debate. eric schadt: it's one of those things that i think is inevitable. it's going to be hard to control, hard to regulate because the technology is so accessible. kristen: according to mit's technology review, which first reported on the breakthrough, the scientists used a technique called crispr, already used with partial success in china, essentially a way to cut and paste dna, replacing unwanted genetic information. scientists

i'm rosemary connors. it's 8:30. and we have issued a first alert for the snowy treacherous conditions and bitter blast of cold air. we've been telling you about this first alert to make sure you're prepared for situations just like this. not a lot of snow is falling but the ground is so cold that everything is sticking to it. the accidents are piling up here on the schuylkill expressway. this is 76 westbound between gladwyne and conshohocken. all lanes are closed after a number of cars hit each other. we're working to find out injuries. anybody on the schuylkill expressway right now is stuck in traffic. this is the scene of another crash on the schuylkill. we're talking about two crashes. this is as well westbound a little bit further ahead at gulf mills. no word on any injuries here. we do know pennsylvania state police are responding. they're working to get to the scene. now let's take a live look at i-95 in wilmington from our camera at the blue rock stadium. you can see traffic here is clear. that's the good new

i'm rosemary connors. >> i'm via sikahema. let's get to meteorologist krystal klei with the first alert neighborhood forecast, the most accurate neighborhood weather forecast. >> good morning, everyone. monday morning, getting ready to head back to work. we have snow that fell over the weekend. there's a few things you need to watch for this morning. one of whiching with still a -- one of which being still a few flakes falling. we've got spotty, light snow showers that have been moving across the area. they're not going to last long. light flakes with -- flakes falling in chester county, south jersey. particularly watching a band that sliced through philly say an hour and a half, two hours ago. i was driving in it. it wasn't heavy. you're okay if you're getting out early, but flakes will fall to vineland and into sussex county over delaware. this will be out of here soon enough. there may be a rain/snow mix. 34 in philly. we won't get much higher, 39 at noon. still feeling around freezing. we'll talk more about the conditions

. >> reporter: hey, dray and rosemary, good morning. yeah, we heard krystal and bill talking about those colder surfaces. and those surfaces are really where we're seeing the snow. for example, this bench, we have at least a couple of inches that accumulated there since last night. and the grass as well. but take a look at the pavement and this parking lot of dunkin donuts and it is pretty much just wet. surfaces like this just really too warm right now for the snow to stick. and the same here for route 47. we are in rio grande, heart of middle township, and you can see that's the intersection right there of route 47 and route 9. roads just primarily wet right now. road crews, we have been seeing them out in force this morning on both the garden state parkway and here right in rio grande as well. we have some video from the parkway. take a look at one of the trucks that we saw out there on the parkway spreading salt as a result of those salting operations on the parkway here in cape may county. speed limit now down to 45 miles per hour
