rosemary: good morning, i'm rosemary connors for "nbc10@issue." what will it take to stop gun violence, especially in our schools? that's the question many in our area are asking after this past week's massacre at a high school in florida. some contend it's about controlling guns. others insist it's not guns, it's about treating mental illness. one thing is clear, the number of innocent young people being gunned down inside their schools is growing, with no end in sight. new data shows school shootings are becoming more and more common. according to the group every town for gun safety, last week's shooting at a high school in florida was the 18th school shooting in the us so far this year, and it's only february. that's more than double the number this time last year. every town counts 291 school shootings since 2013. that averages out to about one per week. and when it comes to younger americans and gun control, a recent survey finds nearly 80% of millennials surveyed say it's too easy to buy a gun. nearly 60% of those surveyed say gun violence w

. >> reporter: rosemary, good morning. we're hearing from neighbors who live on the block that the victims were siblings, a brother and a sister. we're told that the brother was brought here to temple university hospital where he died a short time later. now after firefighters got the fire under control, take a look at the video of the scene. they did go inside the house and found another victim. a woman who died in the fire. now it broke out around midnight on west toronto street in north philadelphia. it's a narrow street meaning a number of the fire trucks that responded had to park on nearby broad street. so there was a little bit of a walk for firefighters. they had to pull their hoses. one neighbor says it was even difficult for him to get out of his home. >> the smoke detector that's going off, my cat hollering, screaming. there was that much smoke. lucky i knew where the door was, or i wouldn't have made it out myself. >> reporter: that man was able to get out, as you heard, but didn't have shoes on. he said there

. >> and i'm rosemary conners. for now, that is. we know the parade is coming, and we'll get those details for you. play after play, the drama kept unfolding. nbc 10 is the official station of the philadelphia eagles. we have live team coverage of the celebration here in philadelphia and minnesota from the moments you didn't see last night on tv to the action that happened while you were sleeping. nbc 10's matt delucia starts us off with that part of the story. matt? >> reporter: and rosemary and ted, folks are waking up now. those who do have it go to work, we've even seen some of them heading to the bus stop here in center city saying it was quite a night. some folks probably had a more eventful night than others. some of the business owners around here are waking up and having to do a lot of cleanup. the macy's here at city hall you can see the workers just finished putting up boards on the windows and doors here because of all the broken glass you see right there on the sidewalk. some folks apparently had too much of a good time

>> reporter: good morning ro rosema rosemary. we have good news. after four hours of fighting this thing, firefighters have gotten this under control. this is at 3rd and chestnut streets. they're still working to get rid of every single -- extinguish all the flames. as of 6:48 a.m., they do not expect it to spread anymore. you can see the heavy black smoke consuming this block of chestnut street for the past four hours. they're going to expect a lot of smoke damage. the building affected will have severe fire damage in all of those apartments. this is at third and chestnut across from the museum of the american revolution. it has a number of bars, hotels, shopping districts and apartments. a number of people in the apartments of the affected buildings were evacuated. nearby buildings also evacuated. some 60 people were just evacuated in the past hour because they were in a nearby building and were told to get out. at this point, we can report no injuries according to fire officials. they are going to continue investigating. they got to get their cr

>> rosemary a few things. starting on the schuylkill expressway, right around where we have eastbound delay because of a construction vehicle on the shoulder. one lape getting by making a 43 drive line on the eastbound side. that's heavy for right now with speeds into the teens too. villanova watching a crash on the blue routes northbound side before saint david's. and in radnor we have a closure. you can see both of these directions closed. so watching that, also watching in new jersey route 38 and cuss pert bfld boulevard. so we have instruction project here down to one lane moving through cherry hill. you'll see a little bit of a slow down here. there's a vehicle fire on school house lane and da cal pike. and the bridge, we two scheduled openings one we're in the process over the tacony pool mire ra at 11:00 so you can take the betsy ross bridge as your alternate. the birling ton bristol is scheduled after that for 11:15. >>. >>> an equipment shortage may mean that they may not be ready for this year's peak

it is 7:18 let's get it to rosemary orozco. >>> those pictures are gorgeous with this sun and clouds mixture providing us with a beautiful sunrise. it is cold though which happened over the weekend. saturday cooler than friday and then sunday a bigger cooldown with breezy conditions and a couple of scattered showers over california into the sierra where they had snow and that is happening this morning as well. this was sent to me from lake county yesterday. it is picture-perfect, but again indicating the changes that came yesterday and they are remaining today. not as breezy and windy although the wind is blowing along the coast in the area of the hills. the low-pressure remains over the great basin, moving to the sierra we have the snow winding down and it will continue to do so into the afternoon not amounting to a lot but this is the first time we have seen snow in quite some time. partly to mostly cloudy skies for us with a bit of a breeze but not as strong as yesterday. we are just as cold now as we started yesterday morning and just as cool for the afternoon. we have calm winds

>> and i'm rosemary conners. the eagles super bowl chance at long last. nbc 10 news today has you covered all morning long from the post-celebration revelry in philadelphia to fans heading home inpin. we start in center city where fans performed dangerous stunts like this in the wake of the eagles win. people piled onto this awning right at the ritz-carlton hotel on broad street. as you can see it collapsed. >> nbc 10's matt delucia has been surveying the scene all night long. what does it look like where you are. >> reporter: here at the broad and chestnut you can see police are still here along with some 06 those bike racks here that were part of the barricades to keep the distance between police officers and those through broad street. also seeing the street sweepers clearing up the trash, the broken glass. we are still seeing a few folks here and there making their way back home. there were a lot of people here just a few hours ago packing broad street, shoulder to shoulder, having a good time, celebrating that eagles win. some people, though, did go
