rosema rosemary? >> anna coren joining us live from hong kong bringing us up to date on the situation in australia. appreciate it. >>> earlier i talked to kathleen bennett, a professor and chair at deacon university in melbourne. i asked her if she thought these new measures were taken seriously and successful? >> we did so well with the first wave. we had lots of cases imported with return travelers and we did go very quickly to a strict lockdown at the time, which we called stage 3. that had a great impact in that we eliminated local transmission pretty much across the country and we were managing return travelers really as our main concern for most of may and june. when we saw the cases rise, which was due to essentially a reintroduction of the virus through travelers and a breakdown in quarantine in the hotel quarantine system, we ended up with quite a rapid rise in cases quickly but because we had such an early investment from the first phase and we had only 100 deaths australia wide at that poin

>> oh, wow, that's a loaded question, rosemary. you know, i think the president has frankly been very dishonest in his portrayals of the coronavirus pandemic, whether it's here in the united states or elsewhere. we have been saying as infectious disease experts and epidemiologists, we've been saying for months now that it was inevitable that the virus would eventually spread out sort of like falling like dominoes falling from the urban centers but eventually spreading to suburbs and rural areas, which is what we've seen. frankly, it didn't have to be quite such a rampant spread. we allowed that to happen by not implementing strict enough lockdowns in most of the country. that's really just in the northeast that we had adequately strict lockdowns. we allowed the virus to run rampant. >> and dr. fauci reiterated what dr. birx said and added that asymptomatic cases are driving this new phase of the virus, which makes it more difficult to contain. and these two top doctors are trying to alert all of us, but president trump apparently d

rosemary orozco has the details. rosemary orozco? >>> we are looking at areas of the bay where we see temperatures down by 4-8 degrees from yesterday morning at this time. as was mentioned a moment ago, spare the air. poor air quality now through about sunday, is what the air quality control district is thinking. let's check in on areas over the fire in the north bay. at its peak report 70 degrees. very warm in some areas. relative humidity is that 26 percent. try as well. we shift over to the santa cruz area and we have 63 percent relative humidity over boulder creek. 64 degrees right now. the shift and the weather pattern is not only bringing us cooler air, but bringing up humidity. these two factors are definitely a positive sign for the firefight. on the flipside, the onshore breeze would be a little bit stronger, especially getting into the afternoon, and that would fan the flames. we will have to watch that until we get into the second part of the day. the temperature is 55 degrees and san francisco. 50 and 60 for the east bay
