rosemary. and east bay fire in a residential neighborhood sent two people to the hospital last night. >> ktvu is betty yu joins us live this morning in martinez with the very latest details. betty. >> good morning. for two people were sent to the hospital after they escaped the flames. at this martinez house fire. now take a look. there doesn't appear to be substantial damage to the exterior of this home, though. the front door is all boarded up this morning. now, this fire started at about 7:30 p.m. last night here on arthur road. not too far off. 680 the contra costa county fire protection district said that firefighters were able to put out the flames in about 15 minutes. we were there as they tackled the fire and smoke billowed from the roof. one person was able to get out on their own. the other an elderly man, had to be rescued. emergency responders performed cpr on him. >> how would you classify critical right now? because we were in cpr at the at that time. >> but our paramedics went to

rosemary. well, it is expected to be a busy day at the bay area's three major airports on the saturday before christmas. we did just check the flightaware website, which tracks airline travel. right now, there are four cancellations and 67 delays at sfo. only a handful of delays at the main airports in oakland and san jose. but these numbers are expected to increase later today. so anyone headed to the airport this morning should arrive early, and you should expect long lines at those security checkpoints. this is expected to be a record breaking christmas week for holiday travel at the nation's airports. >> what we are expecting, though, is an overall total record of 119 million travelers and specifically the airline passengers air travel. that's also a new record of 7.85 million. more people are flying. 2024 has been a record breaking year for air travel in general. tsa numbers also back that up. >> holiday travelers are being advised to always check with their airline before heading off to t

rosemary. well, cleanup efforts are underway in several parts of the bay area following the weekend storm in santa cruz county. cleanup crews will be out today after a rare tornado touched down, knocking out power lines and overturning cars. ktvu zac sos tells us this could have ended far worse. reporter. a brutal. >> a dash cam capturing a funnel cloud touching down in scotts valley around 145 in the afternoon. >> saturday saw these cars just fly up about 15ft in the air. >> matthew fletcher and his friends at a stoplight as the tornado made its way down mount hermon road, next to the scotts village shopping center. >> in the car next to us actually flipped over, and then something cracked and smashed into my driver's side window. >> trees snapping like twigs and power poles pulled down and debris turned into projectiles almost hit her. >> look at where her head would have been. >> a woman inside the car at the time, still in shock, telling ktvu off camera she's just thankful to be alive. >> t

thank you rosemary. well, sports fans around the world are mourning the death of major league baseball's all time stolen base leader rickey henderson grew up in oakland and spent his childhood sneaking into a's games before the career that cemented his place by many as one of the greatest oakland a's players of all time. >> when you think of me, i would like you to remember that kid from the inner city that played the game with all his heart and never took the game for granted. >> henderson, rising high and rickey henderson would have turned 66 years of age on christmas day. his family announced his death yesterday, but did not disclose the cause. henderson was homegrown, a graduate of oakland tech. a loss of a baseball legend is the latest. sad news, of course, for a's fans who learned their team is moving out of oakland earlier this year, 2024 is was already a tough year for oakland a's fans, and number 24 is getting taken away from us. the death of rickey henderson is also top of mind for baseball fan

all right, rosemary, thank you. >> soon. a ski lift at heavenly mountain resort in south lake tahoe remains closed after an accident that injured five people. they were heading up the mountain for another run yesterday, when something caused a pair of chairs to collide. witnesses took these photos. they told us a chair on the comet express lift slid back into another. that caused several riders to fall to the ground. >> we could see about 15. quite a few emt are all the medics that were there surrounding someone. >> another witness told us he saw what looked like to be a pile of bodies beneath the chair. at least one victim had to be taken to a hospital by helicopter. heavenly mountain resort still hasn't said what caused this incident. the resort did release a statement that said, in part, the safety of our guests is our top priority and the resort is investigating this incident. new at five. the last group of striking san francisco hotel workers today voted to approve a new contract, ending a 93 day strike for hilton emplo

rosemary. >> yes, high surf occurring right now, greg. and that low lying flooding occurs closer to the coast is going to continue as we go into tomorrow. the advisory for the high surf continues into tomorrow afternoon. now does not expire until 6 p.m. some of those large breaking waves this afternoon reaching 40ft. and there could be some isolated breakers close to 60ft. so very powerful. strong, of course, surf there going on and very dangerous, not just in the water, along the coastline and our beaches as well. meanwhile, outside of that, it's been a little bit of a soggy day. we have fog out there, scattered showers as we await the next storm. here's another view over san francisco, and from this vantage point, it looks fairly quiet. as we pull back, we are looking at the storm still offshore, and there is an advisory for travel with this next system. that will be until tomorrow evening. as for our west slope, as well as areas over lake tahoe, could see wind gusts to 45mph and above 6000ft, 5 to 10in, maybe even a little bit more. ov

thanks, rosemary. the weather may be to blame for bringing down a large tree across an alameda county road. skyfox flew overhead as crews work to remove the tree from foothill road and country lane. this is near pleasanton in unincorporated alameda county. at last check, the road was still blocked by that tree. the chp is advising drivers to use interstate 680 and pleasanton sunol road as an alternate route. new information tonight about an accident in south lake tahoe. a ski lift at heavenly mountain resort remains closed after an accident that sent five people to the hospital. the people were on a chairlift heading up the mountain when something caused a pair of chairs to collide. witnesses took these pictures. they told us one chair on the comet express lift slid back into another, and five people on the chair fell to the ground. one person had to be airlifted to the hospital. we don't have an update on their conditions. well, coming up, holiday thieves hit several east bay businesses, stealing anyt
