nbc10's rosemary connors is joining us live with the new information. these are not the first lawmakers to be charged in this investigation, right? >> reporter: no, not at all, jim. since this investigation out of the da's office unfolded over the past year the number now stands at six. six legislators who have been charged with taking bribes. in the latest round-up, those accused allegedly took anywhere between $750 and $2,000. the da called them desperate. >> she told him she was worried about raising campaign funds. he handed her $500 in cash. >> reporter: that was just one of a number of payments totaling $1500 that philadelphia district attorney seth williams says state representative bishop accepted from a lobbyist informant. legislator michelle brown lee and harold james are also accused of taking bribes. seth williams picked up the case when attorney general kathleen kane dropped the investigation. >> i really don't want to say much about the attorney general. i think she is her own worst enemy. >> reporter: kane said the case was racially motiv

nbc10's rosemary connors joins us live in north philadelphia with the new information. tell us first about tonight's vigil. >> reporter: community groups neighbors and even the police as you can see, have all gathered here outside of the store as they are meeting here tonight to pay tribute. we are learning new information about one of the suspects involved carlton hipps, he's in the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. we've learned he's in stable condition. he was arrested and arraigned bedside. he will go to jail held there once is he in good condition. in the meantime the investigation now focuses on where the weapons used in this murder came from. >> this is a young officer, he's 30 years old. like i said this could have been me african-american so i felt compelled to come down here and show my respect. >> reporter: drawn to the scene of the shooting terrence like many in philadelphia knows he will never be able to make sense of it. officer robert wilson went into this north philadelphia gamestop on thursday to do a security check and buy a gift for his son, w

those firefighters are undergoing treatment at the hospital right now and so is nbc 10's rosemary connors. rosemary what can you tell us? >> reporter: we just got here and these two firefighters were brought here to the emergency department at temple university hospital within the past half hour. here's what we know. they are in stable condition, so that's some good news in this case. as you mentioned, they were wrapping up a fire scene in north philadelphia. an eyewitness tells us that one of their ladders hit a power line, so that may be the cause of all of this. again, we're finding out that these two firefighters may have been shocked at this fire scene and that's why they were brought here to temple university hospital. we'll stay on top of this and bring you updates as soon as we get more information. reporting live outside temple university hospital in north philly, i'm rosemary connors, nbc 10 news. >>> earlier this morning sky force 10 was over an apartment fire. the fire started at the julian apartments. this happened just before 8:30. this building is across the street from las

nbc10's rosemary connors is live at temple hospital where the firefighters were taken. rosemary? >> reporter: they were brought here to the emergency department where they are in stable condition right now. quite frankly, they are lucky to be alive. the fire commissioner tells me this could have been much worse. >> first electrical hot wire and his body stiffened up and he fell right back. >> reporter: that's what witnesses say happened when the ladder came into contact with the wire. two firefighters got shocked. one of them a nine-year member of the department was not badly injured but the other, a 14-year veteran, suffered third-degree burns to his foot. >> carried him across the street and laid him out and unbuttoned his uniform and they started working on him. >> reporter: the firefighters were following protocol when they removed the metal ladder from the house. according to the commissioner the lives are always live unless there's a problem and pico is notified. >> if there's a fire we can't wait to turn off the electricity. >> reporter: in addition to the commissioner and

nbc 10's rosemary connors is live at the state capital. rosemary what is the governor expected to say during his speech today? >> reporter: well vai, the session is getting under way right now. and then the governor is expected to give that speech at 11:30. as i was heading outside of the capital, i saw quite a few of our state reps and senators filing in very quickly to get their seats. the governor will address them at 11:30. he is expected to present what is being called an ambitious and bold multibillion dollar spending plan before this joint session of the legislature. some of the more controversial proposals expected in the budget include raising the state's personal income tax and sales tax. that's in part to help fund a property tax relief program for municipalities across the state. that's a proposal that is expected to be met with some resistance. some other budget details could include a reduction in the city wage tax. so folks in philly should be listening carefully for that. also, the governor has expressed in recent weeks that

rosemary connors live with this update. >> reporter: jim, within the past half hour, i went into the emergency room here at the medical center to get a status check of the remaining two students who are left behind of the 15 who were brought here right from the school. those two students, they are in the process of being discharged. so everybody that was brought here from the school, they will be out of here. a few parents have brought students in to get checked out so they may be here through the early evening. >> never want to have to go to the hospital because of an issue with school but be thankful nobody's really hurt bad or anything out of the ordinary. >> reporter: when parents sent their children off to paulsboro high school this morning, the emergency room was the last place they expected to pick up their kids at the end of the day. >> she told me her nose is burning, she has headaches. she told me that she's dizzy, she doesn't feel well at all. >> one of my friends had to be carried out on the stretcher. she has really bad asthma and breathing problems. >> reporter: firefig
