nbc 10's rosemary connors is live at the navy yard. what have you found out? >> reporter: for the entire afternoon it's been business as usual here at the navy yard. relatively quiet. but earlier in the day, a very different scene, very different picture as cars of government workers were headed out on this main drag to evacuate. they were leaving in a hurry. very similar scene at the facility in the northeast. if you take a look at that video, you can see that workers there, government employees, they were headed out in a hurry. that as police actively patrolled the entrance to that facility. here in south philly the navy takes care of decommissioned ships. this property also is obviously home to some corporate offices like urban outfitters. we spoke to some business owners and some employees of some of the private businesses. they tell us that because this threat was not credible they're not worried. >> thank god fog did happen. and everybody reacted around here so fast. there were cops everywhere. i heard there were s.w.a.t. teams. we definitely feel safe.

i am rosemary connors. it's just after 9:30 on your saturday morning.et's get to the weather with meteorologist, brittney shipp. we have been telling our viewers all morning long stay hydrated and cool and it's an important message because this heat can be dangerous. >> it can be dangerous and we are not used to the heat yet, and we are usually at 82 degrees, and instead we will be above that for a high of 91 degrees, almost 10 degrees. temperatures will stay in the 80s for today here but 79 in washington township and 80 degrees avalon. and then it's only 9:31, and 86 by 2:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m., 88 degrees. and if we hit the 90s, this will be the third straight day so we will officially be in a heat wave. as we head into tomorrow the heat wave will break because we will expect temperatures to drop down five or six degrees into the mid-80s. >>> the schuylkill navy regatta is now underway. we are watching some of the rowers warming up this morning, and nbc 10's jesse gary is live along the river's edge. how are you holding up out there? >> reporter: rose

i am rosemary connors. it's 6:00 on this saturday.'s get to the first alert forecast with meteorologist, brittney shipp. is this the first heat wave of the season? >> it is and we are not there yet but tracking temperatures in the low 90s today and that will officially put us in heat wave territory. we do need three days. yesterday we tied the record right at 95 degrees, and our temperatures expected to warm at 91. 75 degrees in philadelphia and wilmington, low 70s. and over the next eight hours, expect temperatures to push into the 80s by 10:00 a.m., and 83 degrees by 11:00 a.m. and by 2:00 p.m. 86, and wind speeds out of the north northwest at 8 miles per hour. take a look at what happens as we progress not tonight, but as we head into tomorrow morning we are fine but closer to 7:00 p.m., that's when we see rain moving in. i will let you know how long the rain will last coming up in my full forecast. >>> tractor trailers tossed and toppled in a fast-moving storm. sky force 10 over the building in bethlehem yesterday where a 90-secon

nbc10's rosemary connors is live in logan where the crime scene is investigating. what have you learned? >> reporter: keith, investigators are just beginning to gather evidence. when police arrived here on warnock street nobody answered the front door so they had to break in through that second floor window. that's where they discovered the woman stabbed to death. if you take a look at our video, you can see it's been very active out here for most of the morning. a sergeant on scene told us earlier that the suspect is the victim's boyfriend and the father of one of her children. police say after the stabbing he went to a family member told that family member what he did and then took off. that relative was the one who called 911. now, a short while ago i spoke to a woman who was a nurse and hospice worker. her client lives right across from the victim. they tell me the woman has three young children they greet each other coming and going every day and she's devastated to learn what happened. >> to come to work today, to see all this and to see a murder to see a hum

. >> rosemary connors is live where the hit and run happened. finding that car today is a big step forward in the investigation. >> reporter: it is. it is. we want to show you what's happening right now. if you can turn around you can see the suspect in the blue shirt, the driver who has been identified as 23-year-old zackary mcdonnough. he is being charged with aggravated assault with an automobile failure to report an accident and leaving the scene of the accident. according to police he came to the station to tell investigators he was the driver over the weekend. he realized he had hit something but wasn't sure what it was and he was scared to come forward until now. until police tracked down his car. >> all they had to do was stop. pull over to the side of the road realize they had hit somebody. >> reporter: it didn't take long for police to track down the suspect's car, a gray 2002 hyundai accent with a search warrant investigators will look for any evidence of the hit and run early sunday morning that left 17-year-old kyle pszenny, a penns

nbc 10's rosemary connors is live. looks like it's much improved in 24 hours. >> reporter: there has been some progress made for sure vai, but they still have a long way to go. here is a close-up look at this water main break in west philadelphia. this is on 52nd street between wyalosing and westminster. a large section of the 36-inch main has been removed and that just happened within the past few minutes and you see where the crack happened right down the middle of it. at the moment water department crews are out here and they're working to pump out the water and remove the debris so they can get a really good look at problem and figure out how they're going to repair it. no doubt this is going to take all day today, if not tomorrow and through the week. we want to show you that video against rushing water coming down 52nd street. this happened in the morning and quite a rude awakening for the residents. 10 million gallons of water lost yesterday. that number has been updated by the water department. to put that into

rosemary connors joins us live. >> not everyone got the same evacuation message and you talked to them? >> reporter: i did. as you can see from the parking lot behind me it's packed. that's because many of the private employees decided to stay. some told me their bosses gave them the option that if they felt uncomfortable they could leave and still others like the owner here at the mercer cafe had no idea what was going on until they saw the government workers evacuating. >> it was a little crazy. we were actually kind of slow in here and all of a sudden we started seeing a line of cars and everyone was leaving we were like what's going on. >> reporter: it was a similar scene at the naval facility in northeast philadelphia. government employees quickly evacuated the campus as police with guns drawn patrolled the perimeter. in south philadelphia where the navy holds decommissioned ships, word traveled among private employers on the property. >> someone came in like you should leave, you should leave, everyone's evacuating the yard's being evacuated. >> reporter: the mercer cafe opened o
