. >> nbc 10's rosemary connors joins us from the chester county courthouse. what else have you learned about that suspect? >> reporter: curtis smith of coatesville was charged with harassment, assault, disorderly conduct, all allegedly in relation to a domestic dispute with his wife, according to smith's attorney whom we spoke to earlier today. smith was here at the justice center looking into a court-ordered counseling. however, authorities tell us instead, chaos ensued. according to the chester county district attorney, smith used a knife and attacked a deputy sheriff right in the lobby of the courthouse. another deputy shot and killed smith. he died at paoli hospital. the justice center went into lockdown. we spoke to employees who had to evacuate from the building. they tell us that after hearing the gunshots they hid in their offices until they got the all-clear to leave the premises. >> unfortunately, because of incidents like this across the nation, we have learned how to deal with an attack in the courthouse. nobody else was injured. the sheriffs did
