cnn's rosie tompkins is in dusseldorf with the very latest. rosie? >> reporter: hi christine. yes, i'm at the airport in dusseldorf where of course this flight was intended to as its destination, before the terrible tragic crash occurred. this is where many of the families headed on tuesday when they received the news of the crash in order to try and get some answers. and of course they had their worst fears confirmed when they found that their loved ones had indeed been on board. they set up a crisis center here at the airport for those family members in order to provide support where they could psychologists help them with the trauma of this loss. the airline has also offered to fly family members to the region in the french alps should they want to get closer to the site just to be nearer to the location of the crash where their lost loved ones are. and meanwhile,ist a it's a nation in mourning. as you mentioned, 16 students just 80 kilometers north of here and that town feeling the tremendous impact of that loss. two teachers were also on board the flight. the mayor of the

rosie tompkins is in dusseldorf germany. family have gathered waiting for word about their loved ones. first, erin recovery team have set up a staging area not tar from the crash site. now that we have daylight, what are you expecting? >> reporter: it appears as though the recovery force have resumed. just a short while ago, we saw four helicopters land in the field just behind me. now this was the staging area yesterday for those air efforts. this morning, the spokesperson for france's interior ministry telling cnn affiliate bfm that the recovery effort will commence again today after it had been suspended in the overnight hours due to difficult conditions. now the location of the crash site is proving to be problematic for officials. it's in a remote area. the terrain described as difficult, accessible mainly by air. the site of the crash, local officials say, is in an area that is near a steep mountainside. so causing plenty of problems for the hundreds of police officers and firefighters from france that are participatin

let's bring in cnn's rosie tompkins.he is in andreas lubitz's hometown, where investigators are searching for answers. tell us what's going on from your vantage point, rosie. >> reporter: hi, natalie. yes, well, it's early morning here, a day after police first arrived to search the family home of andreas lubitz, the 27-year-old co-pilot who we now understand deliberately crashed the plane. i'm standing in front of his family home where we believe he lived with his parents. we also believe he had a brother. some neighbors have referred to knowing him and his brother when they were young. and these revelations that he deliberately kept the captain outside of the cockpit, that he deliberately crashed the plane, of course a terrible shock to members of the community here. now, the ceo of lufthansa, carsten spohr, spoke exclusively to cnn's fred pleitgen yesterday and gave us more information on how it was possible that lubitz was able to keep the captain outside of the cockpit in the way we believe he did. let's have a list

rosy tompkins joins us on line. what are the familyarrangements being made for the families?: many of the families on hearing the news on the sell vision of the crash, a crisis center was set up here at the airport itself to provide support to the family members, medical support and psychological support in the form of counselors to help them deal with the trauma. they will pay for family members to travel there and accommodations. among the dead 67 germans. you mentioned the 16 school students who had been on a foreign exchange in spain. also two german opera singers, details have emerged that they were tragically on board. they had been performing in barcelona. the female of the duo was traveling with her husband and baby. so more and more tragic details emerging. >> what's the latest on flight crews with germanwings? some had refused to fly after the crash. a number of flights had to be canceled. >> yes, john that was a statement that we had from the airline on tuesday from the ceo. several crew members were too upset on hearing the news to travel so they didn't fly. and t
