it had nothing to do with rotc at all. if this board wants to continue to support this program, it seems to me we should be putting the pressure where it belongs, which is at the state level to allow this board to give, to have rotc to have this before the requirement, because that was our policy. i am a little disconcerted by this proposal. as commissioner yee said, we have not been able to get a straight word out of several entities. what does that mean? does that have to come back to the board again? does everyone still need to have a physical education credential if we decide not to do independent study? it seems to me it raises a lot of questions for the future, and i think i can speak for everyone on the board that we would not rather come up every two or three years because i think all of us are tired of talking about it and fighting about it. i do not know if staff, and i do not know if anyone can clarify what aipac might be for the board in light of the amendment we just passed, because it seems to me the superint

we have participated in the junior rotc program. it fosters teamwork, health and physical fitness, and other things. this is invaluable to all of the students and the district. as the board considers amendments to the resolution, i want to reiterate my strong support for the jrotc program and to urge continued strong supporter of the program by allowing students into new -- to continue to receive the education credit. further, the instructors to provide such exemplary leadership and work so hard to make the jrotc a success, i understand that the budget is difficult. providing a quality education for all and funding programs for teenagers to stay off of the streets. good, solid programs should part. i would also like to recognize the fact that maybe not everybody knows, but over half of this auditorium is filled with jrotc participants and supporters, so if they would stand up, we would appreciate it. independent study, rotc cadets for students that have jrotc and not p.e. and the passing rate for jrotc cadets is significantly higher in every case. and in three schools we had gallon le yo and burton, every ninth grade jrotc event pass the fitness gram in ninth grade. so one, i want to commend people for this. with all due respect and i have the greatest respect for the p.e. teachers and i have heard people talk a lot about how kids who have trouble with p.e., you know, that the people can't make them go no matter what they do, that they are -- have been doing much better when offered the option of doing their p.e. independently through the jrotc option and i was extremely moved this evening to hear students and i thank you all for coming when you're not in school, i really appreciate that. to say that this gave them more flexibility academically. i think we should at least recognize that there should be anna bit of unintended positive here, occasionally that happens to us. so i -- you know, i urge my colleagues to pass this. i have my nervousness about
