but their education system is almost totally rote learning. particularly those people on the course to university, it's all taught, rote, it's all boring. but that's true with most education. but most education systems in the world. we've got -- we have all over the world we are teaching, we are doing the education yesterday as we are trying to get through today. and we should be really at least teaching education for today if not for tomorrow. the chinese are working on that. i remember remember -- remember that television show dialogue. we had a big audience and television show in china. the government has just announced that mandatory education for nationwide eight years was going to go to 12 years by 2020. i said wait a minute, wait a minute, you're talking about keeping kids in school for four more years but giving them the same kind of education, same kind of rote education that doesn't address to the creativity. and i said the point is what are they doing when they are sitting in school or 8 years or contour 12 years? what are they lear

because i'm slow and how i have to process things and routine and rote is how i learn. it's how i train to go to war. physical training. i study weapon systems. all those kinds of things so i can be prepared as best i can. so a few years ago i was sent to iraq on very short notice, like a few days. like i had to go to iraq right away. i didn't have time to prepare physically the way i normally do. the training i have. i wear a 40 pound backpack or vest that i run in so i can carry the weight. no time to train. i was a little nervous going. and so there was a sunday i got to go to church before i went away. and lynn knew that i was a bit nervous so i tried to, you know, man the family and try to be calm. so lynn let some of the folk at church know that i was anxious about this particular trip and things were going bad in iraq. so after church, a group of ministers and deacons from the church formed a prayer circle around me. i've seen prayer circles but i've never been in the center of one before. the deacon sent men and women -- they put hands on me and reverend andrews

same kind of rote education that doesn't address to the creativity. and i said, the point is what are they doing when they're sitting in school for eight years our soon-to-be 12 years. what are they learning. how are they learning? and we got a great ovation for that. recognition that that's what's got to be addressed. so we talked about crossing the river, trial and error, a lot of experimentation going on in china to figure out what kind of education system, what kind of education for today's world, no one in the world has really mastered that except the united states in higher education. because such primary and secondary, except here. we have got a great higher education system because of competition. for decades and decades and decades, the universities have competed for students, competed for competition for customers. maybe the school is better for customers and we're trying to introduce, say, look you've learned so much from the marketplace about economics, wider israeli marketplace, economic system, or at least change from the road education.
