lori rothman has more from the floor of new york stock exchange. one step forward.. two steps back. that pretty much sums up the relationship between stocks and oil lately... once again following each other slightly higher, then slightly lower all session long. so finally at the closing bell... the dow climbed about 80 points to close at 16,416. the s & p rose 2 points to close at 19-15. and the nasdaq composite index 45-10. so crude oil prices reversed earlier gains to settle lower... down nearly 2% today to $31.66 in reaction to word of possible production cuts. big movers today include.... go pro. shares fell as much as 11 percent after the action camera company reported lower than expected earnings and said its full year forecast would fall short of estimates, too. ralph lauren tumbled as much as 23 percent after the apparel company said sales would fall 3 percent this year after earlier saying sales would be steady. couple winners came out of the materials industry. freeport mcmoran shares shot up 21 percent and alcoa rose 11 percent... now tomorrow... all eyes will be zero-ing
